My husband and i believe we both were born with lyme, and it just got much worse later in life.

However, we both have some autistic characteristics too, and i wonder if maybe the lyme caused these as we developed.

Anyone else have lyme plus autism or aspergers or autistic characteristics in your family?

Absolutely. I have many characteristics of autism, especially with the sensory overload.

These "characteristics" can be, in fact, symptoms of lyme & other tick-borne infections - and also of nutritional deficiencies in some cases.

Lyme can CAUSE autism, whatever one's age. Most who have advanced lyme fall somewhere on the "Autism Spectrum"

A lot can be explained by the toxicity of borrelia. It's one of the most toxic infections of all time.

Liver support is key. Mitochondria support, too. Info about both in the EARS thread below.

my son was born with lyme and I was told from shool that he has aspergers.

I knew he had lyme and coinfections.

I had Lyme while pregnant with my son, but it hadn't been diagnosed yet. While he doesn't appear to have any symptoms of Lyme (though hard to tell in a two year old), he is mildly autistic and has other developmental delays.

I don't know if there is any relation between my Lyme and my son's Autism, but it is something I'd love to learn more about if I ever have the energy.

My 2 year old son had sensory issues and autism traits.

He would repeat "Thomas and Percy and James" over and over like a broken record. He would line up his toys and never look me in the eye.

I never would have thought it was all related to Lyme. I got him checked out just to make sure I didn't pass it on congenitally.

Needless to say, he was Igenex positive for Lyme.

After only 1 month of treatment, he started making eye contact and speaking in conversational sentences. It was a miracle in my book.

Yes, my 21 month old son also has sensory issues, so I wonder is it bc he got them from ME (i have sensory issues) or is it a lyme symptom?

Or is it a lyme symptom in us both?

I guess the only way to know for sure, is to get rid of the Lyme and see what residual symptoms are left.

I have sensory issues too (hypersensitivity to light/sound). It got to the point where I had to wear tinted glasses indoors. So, when my son started having sensory issues, I just thought it was genetic.

However, when I started having daily fevers, I knew this wasn't caused by sensory issues or anxiety. After seeing Dr after Dr, I finally found out I had tick borne infections and started treatment.

That's when I got my son checked...

One big tip off in hindsight is that I was very healthy when I had my daughter 14 yrs ago. However, like the lady on "Under Our Skin", looking back, I wasn't healthy during my pregnancy with my 2 yr old...now I know it was because I was sick.

I could easily have continued wandering in the wilderness for the rest of my life, believing the Drs, chalking everything up to anxiety, depression and in my son's case, sensory issues, autism traits and frequent normal childhood illnesses.

All I have to say is: THANK GOD FOR "UNDER OUR SKIN"!
