im just wondering how close bicillin injections are to IV meds in terms of strenghth? Im wondering if bicillin crosses the BBB too.

Im seeing my LLMD next week and im going to be discussing the possibility of doing IM injections. i just want this GONE

Bicillin does cross the blood brain barrier. I took it for a few months, and saw a little improvement, but not enough. So my doctor putt me on IV in September. I have seen major improvements on IV. I went from being totally housebound, and stuck in bed most of the day, to now where I don't feel very comfortable leaving the house, but I can make it through most days with a short nap. I have a LONG way to go, but certainly have had the best results from IV.

Mine is a very complicated case though. I had many years of misdiagnoses, and 6 months of heavy immune suppressing drugs before I was diagnosed with Lyme. I know of people who had much better success with Bicillin. Hopefully you are one of those! [Smile]

Not in terms of strength. If they work for you that's great but if you are talking about sheer amount of antibiotic flooding your body, most prescribed dosages would be WAY higher than the dose from standard bicillin shots a couple times a week.

Hi Jackie: I have done Bicillin now for 5 months and I did for seven the last go round. When we pull it, my knees start to swell. I do great on it though -- though I am ready to be done and that is why I have pursued my course of action. They definitely helped me .... but I agree with migs... in terms of flooding the system -- like IV.... no. But more long lasting than say amoxi.... you bet your bottom dollar. So I look at it in terms of steps, oral, IM and then IV. Oral and IM have done a lot for me but I am not done and thus, that is where I want to be.
