Hello,
Having trouble yielding results w/ search button...anyone have noticeable g.i. improvement with specific antibiotic? (bloating, severe gut pain, etc. etc.) Metronid. and ceftin used to work; not so much now. Don't even know if its more babesia than lyme...but I'm going on my honeymoon this Thursday and would like to at least try to enjoy it w/o the g.i. crap (no pun intended)...Any advice is greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Sarah

I did Cipro for two weeks and it seemed to help. I had a small bowel overgrowth.

I am not sure what your situation is but it does cause herxing so I don't know if I would do it before your honeymoon.

I have GI prob from Bart and am back on Cipro around the clock.

What type of GI symptoms are you having? It seems like you would be best to avoid any new abx right before your trip. Maybe just things to manage symptoms?

Xifaxan (Rifaximin) is an antibiotic specifically utilized in the gut, for things like traveler's diarrhea and food poisoning.

For me, I was having nausea, abdominal cramping and diarrhea, and getting rid of mold in the house stopped these symptoms immediately. I was really amazed.

So I agree an anti-Candida regimen may help, but also be aware of mold exposure as a possible factor in this.

BTW, I also have Lyme/Bart., and these infections do mess with my gut (motility & inflammation). I'm on Flagyl & Andrographis, and take prokinetics (Domperidone - helps with gi motility) and probiotics to help deal with the symptoms from Lyme/Bart.

Xifaxan ruined my gut forever, because it was Candida causing my problems, not SIBO. I still hate my GI dr for giving that to me. That was more than a year ago.

Factive or Levaquin are my two best meds for controlling GI symptoms. I need to be on one or the other.

Thanks so much, everyone. Spindle - I screwed up; it was cipro that helped; and it helped like overnight....maybe I'll ask about cipro..
