I am having a horrible reaction. I am on doxy, cipro and took ivermectin (paste for 50-70 punds) wed, thurs, fri.
Sat morn I had such bad vertigo and chest pain. I have been in bed for 2 days it feels like vertigo even when I am laying down and like I am having small seizers. I don't normally have any symptoms like that.
I weigh 120 pounds
I have had parasites in my stool the past 2 days
I am starting to get worried that I have caused some damage. Would a herx last this long? does this sound like a herx?
I am afraid to go to the er because i don't want to tell them I took horse medication.
any advice should I cakk my llmd and tell them what i yook? do most llmds have an emergency number?

Could be a herx. Call your LLMD and ask if he wants you in the ER.

Did someone guide you about the ivermectin or did you take it on your own? I would call the LLMD and try to get the answering service. The LLMD's I know do have an answering service, but not all do. If he/she doesn't answer, I would go to the ER if you feel it is severe enough.

- It's the chest pain that would be the most decisive factor in your decision.
ERs have not, in my experience, helped at all with vertigo or with seizures. And I would never mention the "parasite" word to most doctors, although an ER staff would need to know exactly all that you take Rx and supplement-wise.
The question is if this may be life or death.
If just to lessen misery, ERs and most doctors are just not good at that, especially with a person dealing with the complexities of lyme.
Is your MAGNESIUM dose where it should be? That can help relieve pain, vertigo and lessen seizure activity.
You might be able to call an Urgent Care clinic if you have any questions at all about the chest pain. Do call or go if you feel it important, of course. -

hopeforhealth, we can't feel your pain/side effects, you need to follow your gut feeling on this.
At least make a call to your doctor, I would tell them all the meds you�re on. Always remember, it�s not always Lyme related.

Call your LLMD.
If you do go to the ER it is up to you whether or not you tell them about the ivermectin.
You could just say that you think you may have babesia or some sort of intestinal parasite.
It sounds to me like you may have both G.I. parasites and babesia and if so then treatment will have to be slower in my opinion not to overwhelm your body.
You could try some sort of binder -- apple pectin fiber, bentonite clay or activated charcoal capsules to clean out your G.I.
So sorry you are having such a hard time. I would definitely stop the ivermectin for now. It does sound like that is the med which is causing the reaction.
In the future I hope you feel comfortable discussing alternative treatments with your LLMD. Depending on the doc hubby and I have had some that we discussed herbs and supplements and alternative treatments with and others that we just did the adjunctive things on our own. But if you are on your own then unfortunately any reactions usually have to be figured out on your own as well.
If you decide not to go to the ER then I would ask your LLMD on Monday to write orders so you can get routine bloodwork done to rule out any significant issues.

- Yes, a herx can last for days or weeks. And the degrees of that can vary. It can be on-going for nearly the entire time of treatment for some (but, usually good liver support helps).
I wonder if maybe there is something missing from your herx-management "kit" -

Do whatever you can to detox; binders (charcoal), colon cleanse, magnesium to bowel tolerance, vitamin C, Pekana detox drops, water, water water.

thank you for the responses. I stayed home but have had to send my kids to my parents because I am not improving.
Can a reaction to medication last 48 hours? or is this most likley a herx? If it is a herx I must have something that needs to be treated by the ivermectin.
If a improve do I take it again? scary stuff It feels like my brain is inflamed.

Have you ever done any other meds or herbs for babesia or parasites? If so, what was your reaction to those? If not, then I think you need to discuss your reaction with your doc.
I personally think that ivermectin works on babesia. And as I said before if you have both intestinal parasites and babesia then you could be having a reaction for 2 different reasons.
Next time around I would probably pick either a med or herb which works on only one of those 2 infections and start slower.
And if you do have babesia I know this is not what you want to hear, but I personally do not think the reaction will improve all that much until it is further treated. It is like you woke up a sleeping giant I am afraid.
Babesia can be very difficult to treat and much of it will be trial and error as different things work for different people. But to really truly get rid of it will require long term meds/herbs (generally 1 year or more) and multiple med/herb combos rotated.
G.I. parasites may or may not be difficult to treat -- depends on what you have and how long you have had it. In my opinion if you really do have parasites exiting after only 3 doses of ivermectin then you either have a very high parasite load or the particular med targeted whatever species you have very well.
Ascaris and giardia would be the most common parasites -- but giardia is microscopic. Tapeworms are possible but much less likely and probably would not respond to such low doses of ivermectin.
Hang in there and please try to talk to your LLMD tomorrow.

Bea- To malarone I also had some dizziness and couldn't work up to the dose required. Llmd ended up taking me off of it.
I have been treating parasites, i got sick while on vacation. had 3 large worms. did 6 weeks humaworm more worms, and another 3 day protocol (metha something) for worms. Then I did the 3 days ivermectin.
So is it uncommon to have this type of response to 3 half doses of ivermectin over a 3 day span.
Its very difficult to guess what have.... definitely parasites. Could parasites cause this reaction or do you lean towards babesia? I am on nothing for babesia.
thanks again, my head is not spinning like yesterday, but I do have a terrible headache and some chest pain. Still in bed, would like to walk my dog but nervous to go alone.
