I received my results from Lab Corp:
Lyme, Western Blot, Serum
Lyme Ab IgG by WB:
IgG p93 Ab. absent
IgG p66 Ab. absebt
IgG p58 Ab. absent
IgG p45 Ab. absent
IgG p41 Ab. Present Abnormal
IgG p39 Ab. absent
IgG p30 Ab. absent
IgG p28 Ab. absent
IgG p23 Ab. absent
IgG p18 Ab. absent
Lyme IgG WB Interp. Negative

Positive: 5 of the following Borrelia specific bands: 18, 23, 28, 30, 39, 41, 45, 58, 66, and 93.

Negative: No bands or banding patterns that do not meet positive criteria.

Lyme Ab IgM by WB:
IgM p41 Ab. Absent
IgM p39 Ab. Absent
IgM p23 Ab. Present Abnormal

Lyme IgM WB Interp. Negative

I know that Lyme is more clinical in diagnosis but I do not understand how 2 bands can be positive but overall negative. It also says at the bottom:
Criteria for positivity are those recommended by CDC/ASTPHLD. p23=Osp C, p41=flagellin

So your only reactive bands were:
IGM 41
IGG 23

?
What lab?
I would re-test with either Igenex and/or Advanced Lab.

I would also test total serum Immunoglobulin levels. IGA, IGM and IGG and subclasses.
If you are deficient in producing Immunoglobulins that can reflect on the antibody tests.

Lab Corp does not test for ALL POSSIBLE BANDS.

Test #188 and 189 is what you need

It was Lab Corp...I know they are not the best but I figured it was a start. I know my Dr. requested a Lyme titer with Western Blot, would the titer results be the bands?

FYI... My labcorp results were also only positive for band 41...because it was "negative" it delayed my diagnosis for five months. My Igenex results are in my signature - positive for both IgG and IgM. I am slowly improving with antibiotics - best $900 I spent!

Titer is ELISA result. Bands are Western Blot result.

I was tested with Quest labs, but only 10 bands with it..came positive for Borrelia B

I think I got lucky cause I asked for Western Blot, or it finally showed up...previously results came back negative, 5 times in past years.

Currently searching for new doctor as mine will not test for co infections...on doxy, low dose for now till find new doctor and testing with better lab.

Good luck to you..hope you find a better doctor

how would an ELISA titer read on the results? I only see the bands and their results and their overall interpretation of the bands. I know the lab slip said Lyme titer with western blot...hmm

An ELISA is a very inferior test. That will usually just say "negative" but, even on the chance it comes out "positive" most doctors deem that a "false positive" -- It does not test "bands"

You probably had both the ELISA and the WESTERN BLOT, then.

You need to find an ILADS educated Lyme Literate doctor.

Get a copy of ALL these test results (even the ELISA) for your file, and make a copy for the LL doctor's first appt.

I sure hope you can find one and get there.

Diagnosing Lyme Disease (&/or whatever else is going on)

Other tick-borne infections and other chronic stealth infections - as well as certain conditions - that can hold us back are discussed here.

(What ILADS is) . . . WHY you need an ILADS-educated, Lyme Literate Doctor - starting with assessment / evaluation.

The ELISA would just say positive or negative.

The Igenex WB is only around $200, not $900. I hope you didn't get charged that much for only that test, Herbs.

That was for the Igenex western blot/IFA/FISH for Lyme and all the coinfections... It totaled either $875 or $975 for everything. [Smile]

I just spoke to my PCP and she explained that the titer portion evaluated the bands and the Western Blot interpretation was the part that said WB negative.

The way it appeared was each band evaluated and then the general summary for WB of negative since I didn't have enough + bands.

I didn't question any further because upon asking how IgM 23 would be positive and the result be negative if it is Lyme specific and her response was that we could retest in a few months to watch that band....hmmm.
