My young adult daughter was treated for a year with IV antibiotics, then several months of orals. During the past 6 weeks on orals her neurological symptoms have worsened and shes having trouble walking because of her poor balance.

Her LLMD wants to try IV Claforan again. It was the one drug that gave her the biggest improvement, but she had an allergic reaction to it. Her LLMD wants to administer the Claforan in increasing amounts over the course of a day, beginning with a very low dose. Has anyone done this before? Did it work?

Could she still have a reaction the next day? Is building up a tolerance over one day enough or should it be done more slowly over several days?

Are there any other questions we should ask?

Many thanks for your suggestions and shared experiences!

i've done iv claforan, and man it's intense, but just like your daughter it gave me the biggest improvement.

i'm not a doctor, but i would think it would take much longer than a day to build up a tolerance.

what was her allergic reation?
