Hi all. Sighhh... so i've been trying to loose 7 pounds i gained on doxy, and now i'm on mepron. I started loosing weight, but then i had to start to eat all the fat for Mepron and I've stopped loosing.
My calories have pretty much stayed the same cause i've limited my other food intake to accommodate the fat (for the mepron). But I'm one of those people that WONT loose weight, soooo frustrating.
OK so do most people use coconut concentrate for the fat? A lot of people say they loose weight using it, so I thought maybe I'd try it. Does it have to be Tropical Traditions....or can it be another type? Anyone have any advice?

- My advice: do not focus on loosing weight right now but on excellent food intake from a variety of healthful sources.
Do be mindful of the balance and be sure you get enough - and not too much. Move as often and as best you safely can, avoiding aerobics and gravitating to muscle toning.
PILATES may be excellent for you.
The weight gain can happen with lyme for variety of reasons beyond our control but once the infection(s) are addressed and we get into remission, most report the weight normalizing (whichever direction needed).
ADRENAL SUPPORT is vital, too, for reasons explained here: ----------------

- Q: "Does it have to be Tropical Traditions"
I've not studied that brand and some here may suggest it for specific reasons - so you'd want to know why they do (or the doctors who suggest that brand)
but the most important thing is to get RAW & UNFILTERED -- and as fresh as possible.
I get AUNT PATTY's and find that to be very good.
Old oils (or oils that have gotten too hot) can be dangerous for the lining of our blood vessels and heart).
If possible, best a glass jar protected from the light (though most of the jars are clear, it seems - and some good brands are in plastic. When so, try at least to find BPA-free plastic).
Organic might be good, too, but it could come from a source that is just not registered organic but still uses those basic principles. It can cost a small fortune to be "certified" organic.
Some say "keep refrigerated" some don't. It's probably best to, especially in summer, but it can be much harder to then take out a serving. It's a learned skill. -

I think in the end you'll see that eating higher fat makes you stay full and eat less overall. You might like the book Primal Blueprint, or his website, Mark's Daily Apple. He talks about eating high fat, but no starchy carbs, only fruits and veggies (with meat, eggs, nuts, seeds, nut butters, etc.) and how eating starchy carbs and fat together will make a person gain weight. It's not the fat, it's the grain.

Keebler-- i hear ya
I know you can gain weight with Lyme for a variety of reasons, but I also don't think there is anything wrong with trying to prevent it. I'm not trying to loose 100 pounds and I'm not doing anything crazy, so i think it will be ok.
i just wanted to know if there was a more efficient way to go about eating all that fat for the mepron.
Six-- I do adhere to a similar diet at Mark's-- love his site! Do you think eating a fatty meal is enough? I;ve been measuring the fat thinking it was super important to have at least 27 grams....is that a little crazy on my part?
Thanks for the help guys!

I just ate fatty meals, I didn't measure. Once I got the hang of what 27 grams looked like, I just was sure to eat fat that looked like enough.
Do you do all the walking Mark recommends? He also recommends strength training (I do pilates). I would skip the sprints for now, while you're sick.

Several years ago, I experimented with eating coconut cream concentrate from Tropical Traditions.
I mixed in some honey, and ate a couple ounces per day.
Wow, it did something to my metabolism, and I gradually but steadily lost weight. I could NEVER lose weight, even when I was under great stress and not eating.
I lost ten pounds over two months, without doing anything else...I cannot exercise due to fatigue. My only complaint about this was that something triggered the kidneys to filter out more fluid, all the time, even when I was asleep. I'd wake up every one to two hours with a bursting full bladder.
If you want to purchase from Tropical Traditions, get on their email list. They put their stuff on sale on a rotating basis, and sometimes have free shipping.

I do pilates and then also psyique 57 which is kinda like the Barre method (like ballet stuff until it burns then switch muscle-- no cardio).
I walk too but usually only a little with my dog.
Thanks Carol, I didn't know which product people meant specifically-- I will get on their email list :-)

I use certified organic extra virgin coconut oil almost exclusively to provide the fat required for mepron absorption. It does not have to be tropical traditions brand. There are other good brands available.
One I like is made by emerald labs but again there are other quality brands out there.
I try not to rely on fatty meals for my fat intake because the obvious downside of getting too much bad fat along with the good which can lead to weight gain and clogged arteries among other things.
A good example: bacon......love the stuff and loaded with fat but definately no good for ya
So will the coconut oil actually help you lose weight?..........very possible if you replace the high fat meals with it.
While this may sound silly, since I use the coconut oil for said fat intake, I otherwise eat a low fat diet.
Of course you can't cut out all fats even if not taking mepron. Your body needs some fat for proper food absorption
I have read about and witnessed folks actually gaining weight on no/super low fat diets. It's all a balancing act. Give the coconut oil a try, you'll be glad you did. No guarantee you will lose weight but at least your fat intake will be beneficial fat.
Good luck

How much fat do you need with mepron, I thought it was only around 7 grams???
Posted by WhitneyS (Member # 25666) on :
Ellen if you are on a full 2 tsp dose you need 27 grams
Posted by WhitneyS (Member # 25666) on :
AverageJoe, that makes since. So far I've only been getting my fats from nuts and coconut milk/ oil.
But I haven't taken then plunge into just spooning the coconut oil out of the jar.
So does the coconut oil need to be raw, or just organic, extra virgin?

- Everyone, be sure to rotate fats, too. Never the same foods day after day.
Some say ghee (clarified butter) in very tiny amounts with a special meal. Some say: no ghee. -

I am on 1tsp twice a day. So I was told to have atleast 7gms of fat when I take it, which is breakfast and dinner. Is that wrong?
Posted by WhitneyS (Member # 25666) on :
I have 2 tsp so your fat dose would be half of mine (27 / 2= 13.5). So I would increase the fat amount (if I were you).

Man ,,I was told to just pop a few almonds when taking Mepron
What does fat amount look like?
I'm on 1 tsp x's 2 a day ..so now I see this is not full dose for Mepron if I read that right..
If I put 2.5 ml cod liver oil in med cup and add 5 ml Mepron. Is that good??
Posted by WhitneyS (Member # 25666) on :
They did a clinical trial showing that taking 27 grams of fat (for 2 teaspoons) with Mepron increased the effectiveness of the medicine 3 fold.
Its about two tablespoons of peanut butter... so Nonna you would only need 1 tablespoon or an ounce of nuts or so..
