Just started taking alinia yesterday and have had a headache since. I had a course of alinia several years ago but I had so many loud symptoms then that I don't know what it was doing or how I felt.

Anyhow, I'm hoping that the headaches mean that the alinia is getting to the babesia. I have neuro lyme or babs or whatever. Has anyone had headaches with alinia? What was the outcome? How long did you take it?

I've started taking Alinia this week as a trial to see if it would help with my Babesia symptoms. Not sure if a week is enough to see any positive changes...?

I've also been having headaches and nausea within a couple hours after taking each dose of the medication. Makes me wonder if it is a side effect, not a true herx like symptom.

The headaches are migraine like. Not fun. I do hope that they go away. I have a few days left of my week trial.

Headaches are listed as a side effect for Alinia. This drug is specific for G. I. parasites.

Babesia is a blood parasite. Why do you think it will kill babesia? You should tell your dr if the headaches get too severe.

A lot of LLMD's have used alinia the past 3 years. I took it for 3 months along with azithromycin. Luckily for me, I didn't get the headaches----but it does turn ALL bodily fluids a bright radioactive yellow----goes away when you stop taking it. It helped me---very expensive drug!

Actually I got the idea that alinia was useful for babesia from reading past posts on this forum. Quite a few of them said that that is the case. Apparently it helped some but not others.

Alinia is an antiparasitic. Babesia is a parasitic protozoa. Usually the parasite treatment is started with the meds that do not cross the blood brain barrier, such as Ivermectin, etc., and Albendazole and Alinia come later - both cross the bbb.

Muscle testing tells which one you can handle. Maybe you should talk to your doctor. I don't think I would refer to a headache as a herx and never had a headache when I took Alinia (used to be called Daxon) many years ago.

Take care.

I just started taking it. Feel awful. Nauseous, bad fatigue, brain fog, pain in my hip which I never had before. I'm not sure if I can handle staying on it.

Yeah, I felt pretty rotten on it too, mostly stomach issues if I remember correctly.

According to the md that prescribed, it is supposed to be one of the "easier" anti-parasitics to take.

Hope you feel better soon.

I just started taking it as well and am soo nauseated! Would it be the Alinia or IV Vanco?
