My son has had a sore throat for several days & just noticed a dime [confused] size ulcer in the back of his throat & sore on tongue.
This sounds viral too me but Dc put him on 875 mg of ammox.
Any suggestions what would help
salt water, nystatin, probiotics....?

Sea Buckthorn oil is the most soothing & healing help I've found in years of mouth ulcers. And I tried everything else under the sun.

Best source a the best price I've found: Mountain Rose Herbs (in Oregon). I use about 8 ounces a month.

Just wanted to say that when I first got the flu-like illness which I now know was lyme, my Dr at the time told me I had a virus...and I had a very sore throat with ulcers on my tonsils and back of my throat....so better be safe than sorry.

Good point that it could be any kind of infection and antibiotics would not address a virus -- and that this could be a sign of lyme.

Still, since Amoxicillin is used to treat STREP throat - be sure he takes the full course just in case it is strep.

Keep separate from abx:

PROBIOTICs

NYSTATIN

OLE - - Olive Leaf Extract (Seagate is the best brand, many are inferior) has great benefits but also keep that separate from Rx, and Probiotics. This would take the place of nystatin, IMO.

LDM-100 (Lomatium d. ticture from Barlow Herbs) is also a top helper.

I found Chloroseptic spray to temporarily help because it numbs and covers the area better than OraGel or similar products. Also broke open an Aloe gel tab and applied for soothing the burn. Have not tried the Sea Buckthorn oil yet.

Only recently did my ENT doctor prescribe Lidocaine Hydrochloride topical solution but this is probably not for children but rather for ppl with chronic conditions.

I agree with Keebler about completing any strep regimen because if treated improperly it could visit again and cause other issues.

Have him gargle 3x a day with a solution of about 2-3 drops Tea Tree Oil in 6-8 ozs lukewarm water. It is not to be swallowed afterwards, but spit out.

Tea Tree Oil is antibacterial and antiviral.

Another good option is to take a teaspoon of Manuka honey and hold in the mouth as long as possible. It has anti-bacterial properties and helps with viral and bacterial infections.

We also use it with hot lemon water for soothing effects and detox.

Topic: SONS THROAT ULCER/ TONGUE SORE
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/1/116707

Hi,
Went to pediatrician that knows nothing about lyme, says this is viral but will not do any testing, DC's out of town.
He started with a sore throat then developed these sores.

1] back of throat (just above tongue) ulcer plus has yeast & treating with herbal remedies & nystatin)
 -

2] sore on tongue in c-shape, almost looks parasitic??

Gargle with Normal Saline solution, which is the same concentration of salt as in the body.
Mix one half teaspoon of sea salt with eight ounces of water.
Leave the cup by the sink, and gargle with it whenever you go by!

The SeaBuckthorn oil, olive leaf extract, and manuka honey are good suggestions.
I've used Chloraseptic spray to ease the pain, and that was helpful, although it doesn't heal the ulcers.

Do you have access to an LED light therapy unit?
I think this would be the quickest way to heal his mouth.

Here are some studies about this.
Many of the papers use the term "low level laser" for LED light therapy.

(Aphthous stomatitis means oral ulcer.)
