I am confused as to whether or not Minocycline and Rifampin can be taken with food or not. I have a very sensitive stomach so I'm concerned about taking them on an empty stomach, but don't want to effect the absorption. I'm so nervous about starting the rifampin, not sure what to expect. [confused]

I don't know about the Mino but I am taking Rifampin and my LLMD has me take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. He said to wait an hour to eat.

I was nervous to start it too but I have had zero side effects from it so far except for my urine turning orange. I take 600 mg in the am.
Started 3 weeks ago.

Lymetoo, are you refverring to the Mino or the rifampin, or both?

birdie67 no stomach pains at all without any food? Pills or capsules?

No stomach pains what so ever and I also have a very touchy stomach. I am taking capsules.

I've read that some people have started at a lower dose than me but I started right away with the 600mg and have had no problems at all.

I took on an empty stomach for a long time and got tired of trying to time it right. My doc said just take it with meal with my other meds. He thought it was such a small difference in effectiveness that it wouldn't matter much. It is much easier now.
I did fine with both ways.

My LLMD advised me to take both with food. I know that the pharmacist recommends that they be taken on an empty stomach but I could not tolerate taking them that way when I tried. My LLMD's advice was right for me.

Food may slightly delay or decrease the absorption of these 2 meds. I was told that it was not enough to decrease the effectiveness. Just avoid taking mino with dairy products.

I take mino, rifampin and artemisia together always on empty stomach and I have never had problem with my stomach, though it is very sensitive

I know minerals must be taken apart from antibiotics but how about other supplements like fish oil, q10, etc. Is there a reason why these supplements can not be taken together with above mentioned antibiotics?

Absorption of rifampin is reduced by about 30% when the drug is ingested with food.

Both.

You can try Rifampin on an empty stomach. Wouldn't work for me, I know.

My pharmacist said to take ALL abx with food, regardless of what the pharmaceutical companies recommend. I had great success on rifampin WITH food.
