I'm super confused though -- is this a *dangerous* side effect? Should one stop if it persists? How can we tell these things apart?

I have pretty severe shortness of breath from Babs. I am currently taking Mepron also.
What helps me with this is Zhang's Artemisiae. I have tried other brands, but they do not work as well.

I get horrible air hunger off and on and Dr. Zhang's Artemisiae seemed to help me more when I first started it than it does now (finishing 4th month of pulsing).
I'm confused about a 'herx' with babesia. A herx happens with the lyme bacteria, because of the die off, but babesia is a protozoan and I didn't think the term 'herx' was relevant with babesia...that it has to do with the lyme bacteria? Is it more that the red blood cells are dying?

From Burrascano, page 26, regarding babesia:
"Symptoms cycle rapidly, with flares every four to six days."
When treating babs, these flares became intense for me. So, you may not be experiencing a herx, per se, but rather a flare. But, it is a distinction without a difference.
I had a flare every 7 days like clockwork. Totally debilitating for 48 hours. So, it is just what this disease does.
Lyme also flares every 4 weeks. Burrascano says the lyme flares have to do with the growth cycle of the bacteria.
He presumes that the flares are worse during treatment because of the die-off that is occurring in addition to the flare.

So is it babs or mepron and breathing problems?????

Larae30, I went to a Lyme conference years ago. Someone asked a very reputable Lyme doctor if you herx when treating Babs.
The doctor said that if you are experiencing a worsening of the symptoms from that infection, then it is a herx.
I definitely believe Babs causes herxes. It does for me.

I was taking mepron and started getting air hunger pretty badly along with depression, and a heavy feeling. My llmd switched me to malarone, 3x day. Good luck.
