Biaxin gave me terrible anxiety. Also gave me total insomnia and total anorexia. By day 3, I could not eat any food at all, not even one spoonful in an entire day.

So, I think you are thinking in the wrong direction. Bart is not treated with biaxin. Lyme is.

Here is a quote from a website listing some biaxin side effects:

"Transient CNS events including anxiety, behavioral changes, confusional states, convulsions, depersonalization, disorientation, hallucinations, insomnia, depression, manic behavior, nightmares, psychosis, tinnitus, tremor, and vertigo have been reported during post-marketing surveillance. Events usually resolve with discontinuation of the drug."

I lasted 4 days on biaxin.

Hi tf thanks for the help, I was on biaxin a few months ago and for the first 5 days wondered if it was a side effect but then actually had less anxiety after that than I had had in a while so I think it is probably more of a mild herx than anything else.

And the longer I am on the clarithromycin the less anxiety I seem to have.

I have spoken with my llmd about how horrible I was feeling when first starting the planq and clarithromycin and she thinks it was likely a huge herx. She has told me this is normal for the first few weeks of treatment and to stop meds and detox If it gets worse again.

She feels that this is actually a good sign as it shows I am responding appropriately to treatment with the initial herx . She has also told me that I can not really expect to see major improvement in the first 3 months but to understand that I will still have many ups and downs.

I still don't feel normal at all but then I never feel normal just back to my baseline now.

Do most not see major improvements for the first three months? I assume it takes a while to progress beyond baseline.

Sorry TF..Biaxin, and all macrolides like Zith/Biaxin, hit Bart a bit. There is some effectiveness.

But true Bart treatment usually requires at least 2 intracellular drugs. Example Doxy/Zith, Doxy/Biaxin and preferably with Rifampin or Levaquin added.

My LLMD just added Doxy back in to my cocktail of Biaxin XL, Plaquenil, Bicillin, Mepron, etc, so it could be more effective for Bart. He is a VERY well known LLMD.

I agree with your lyme doctor about everything you wrote above.

So, just rest in what she told you. You will be better off if you can just be at peace about this and the entire process as a whole and focus on other parts of your life.

Some people obsess while in lyme treatment, and that is not good for your health mentally or physically.

You have to just accept that you don't know when you will have major improvements, the amount of time it will take to get well, etc. Take it one step at a time and don't get ahead of yourself. Take control of your thoughts and stop them when they are not productive.

Hey tf again thanks for your help and support and I agree with what my llmd has said too I also know as many have said it is not a sprint but a marathon one which we all must go through to get well.

I am trying everything I can meds, diet, all recommended supps as per dr b guide, resting during the day, daily lemon juice and bentonite clay , hot baths and walking. Also to bed by 11 pm. I am also only doing what I feel I can around the house as my body tells me. I do feel a bit better today and have decided I want to do everything I can

. I do also trust my llmd and her advice and understand that this will be frought with ups and downs and not to expect much for a while but at least I can do everything I have mentioned above to help.

Also bcb I do find that interesting about the combos you mention for Bart cause my llmd has me on the planq and clarithromycin to start but in 5 days I add in doxy so will be on a combo of biaxin and doxy .

I will also be adding in flagyl pulsed every 2 weeks and I know my llmd also mentioned that in 3 months we will add in refphampin (sp) so I think she is going after Lyme and Bart first then babs

Sounds like she is trying to get the Bart load down a bit first with dozy and biaxin to prep me for the refanpin

One other question , does depersonalization ever get better and isn't that a symptom of Bart?

Posted by Maya12 (Member # 36392) on :

Anyone?

It's a lyme symptom. Of course it gets better. I don't have it anymore.

Hey tf did it get worse before getting better when starting treatment?

maya, you have been misinformed. biaxin /biaxin xl is one of the few treatments that target bart.Dr. S is the expert and he and burrascano agree that these are the best for bart and i have found that to be true. It is fantastic and has gotten me out of bartonella induced multiple sclerosis and much of the other symptoms you describe . The best drugs for the evil bart are rifampin, biaxin and bactrim..also levaquin but that has serious side effects which are irreversable so alot of drs. won't use it.

**edited to remove LLMD name per Lymenet rules**

Thanks Matt that is good to know about the biaxin . I am on that and doxy and my Bart depersonalization has definatly been acting up lately,

Can the Bart symptoms often get worse for a while before getting better?

Since starting biaxin I have had off and on worse depersonalization. But I have only been on it for 2 weeks

hi maya. i do not often use this website so please feel free to pm me and i'll see it sooner. (and its mick not matt:) as for your question bart is the devil.i found/find it even worse than lyme so it can take a very long time to manage it and yes the psyciatric symptoms are huge! 2 weeks is a very short amount of time, this coinfection is nasty. trust your dr. The great thing though is that lyme and the coinfections are managable and often curable with persistance with antibiotics..most important is do not get sucked into the chatrooms and boards full of attention seeking, whining, depressed, negative souls who spend their days wallowing in their self pity and trolling for others to join in their pity parties.,the chances are that these people would be depressed, and miserable with or without lyme and its unhealthy to be around. find great people who are positive and stay far from all the whiny crybabies who have great drs. all the meds they need for treatment yet manage to never get better and try to make others think they will never get well. Sounds like your dr. knows his business and thats the most important first step. you'll go thru hell with bart but youll get better and i hope when u do you'll spend a few minutes each week to give some drs. names or encouragment to the next [Smile] hug 4 u.
