My daughter is supposed to go to the prom with a friend from another school. They have had a lice outbreak recently.
Her date does not have it, but she is afraid she will get it from one of the other kids.
Is there something we can use to prevent this?
Thanks.

Nope. Sorry. It's a tough one. We used to live out in the country at a school where they had it constantly. I was nit-picking all the time. Horrible.
I've heard rumors that coconut is a turn off for lice. Dr. Mercola says to put coconut oil on the hair before you wash it for softness. Maybe? Idk.

My Lyme doc says they give Ivermectin to kids where lice is prevalent, even for prevention.

Called Whole Foods and they said tea tree shampoo helps too.
One of the schools in the area has 100 kids out with it. Final exams start next week too.
Couldn't have happened at a worse time.
It never ends. Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
Tell her to slow dance only with her date. (that may be hard!)

This may as well be the plague as far as she is concerned.
She has not seen some of these kids in a while, so they are all gonna want to give her a hug etc.
Will tell her about the slow dancing.
She is considering not going.

I would not let lice stop me from my prom!! Encourage her to go!
I had a student with lice in my classroom once and NO ONE got them from her. NO ONE. (and I'm talking about a 4th grade classroom where the kids were in THAT room all day)
It's kinda hard for me to imagine anyone attending prom with head lice. They would KNOW they have them and would be too embarrassed to go.

If you do need to treat lice in the future, look for electric lice comb at amazon.com.
The reviews are very instructive.

I have two young children and there's always an outbreak in school every year, and then at camp. Tell your daughter to absolutely wear her hair all the way up if possible. I wouldn't be doing any hugging. You can purchase a lice comb and she can comb it out every few days with olive oil or conditioner after the event. There are some places that will come to your house and treat you if you get it but it's expensive. There are also places you can go for treatment. I Comb my kids hair out with the lice comb every day and spray a product called fairy tails in their hair. I think it helps because my daughter had three kids in her class with it and she never got it.

Yeah, my daughter got them from using someone's comb.
