How much does Gemifloxacin ('Factive') cost in Mexico? And do they have a prescription requirement? In Spain, they don't for ABx, so I thought that maybe .... ? I know someone who could import it for me.

google pharmacies in Mexico where the person is going, and then ask via email. But I would make sure that the particular pharmacy that you use is reputable. If the person going knows, that's good. Or ask around.

Mexican meds are every bit as good as Walgreens or CVS. I highave bought thousands of meds from Mex, US, India, Spain and Canada and have never noticed a difference in potency, side effects, etc.
Many drugs in other countries ate made in Mx, even if packaged elsewhere. They may ask you for a prescription butost of the smaller ones won't. I just bought some Biaxin last week and the first two farmacias asked for a script and the next 7 or so did not.

Okay, but I'm talking about 'Factive' (Gemifloxacin) in particular of which Oscient Pharma still holds the exclusive license. So it is very probable that the 'Factive' sold in Mexico is the same as the US 'Factive'.
I just can't believe that no one here ever tried it and knows the price and where it is produced .... ?

And if the cost is the reason, why don't you buy it in Mexico? You see me perplexed once again ....

'Factive' is Gemifloxacin. You have there a great AB in the US (1 out of 3 that reaches the cerebrospinal fluid!) and you don't use it: that's what I'm talking about!

Is factive related to levaquin? My LLMD mentioned factive to me too. I hadn't heard of it.

Because of the higher levels in the cerebrospinal fluid (see above) and because of the much higher activity against Borrelia: http://aac.asm.org/content/45/9/2486.full
Of course, 'Factive'/Gemifloxacin and Levaquin/Levofloxacin are both quinolones. I just guess that Levaquin is much cheaper (as it is here in Europe) because nobody holds the patent anymore.

It depends: it can be very effective alone. If you go on Barts, some German LLMDs add Rifampicin. A "stronger" combination I recently heard of is 'Factive'/Gemifloxacin + Minocycline + Quensyl + Tinidazol. This is actually the best you can do, at least in theory .... However, all 4 reach into the cerebrospinal fluid.
