I was diagnosed in 2010. Recognized the bulls eye rash and other rashes and started on treatment promptly.
It took two years to knock it back but I consider myself lucky. The main problem I have been left with is neuritis/neuropathy. Usually I can keep it pretty knocked down or at least tolerable unless I get a bug bite.
Recently I discovered that even getting a Buffalo gnat bite (big nasty gnats that pop up this time of the year where we live) my neuritis kicks in with a vengence and I seem to have a flair of my Lyme symptoms at the same time.
Even if I get a tick trying to bite me without embedding I will have the same reaction.
I start back on Doxy and the symptoms immediately improve.
I told my doc yesterday that I am afraid that my body is having a toxic reaction to ALL insect bites that has been triggered by Lyme and tick bites. He didn't discount my theory. He even thought that maybe I am having an auto-immune reaction to them.
His advice. Use LOTS of OFF and try not to get bug bit.
Yeah, I wish it was that easy.
Has anyone else had this problem with insect bites other than ticks or does anyone have any insight to this reaction?
Hope everyone has a safe and tickless Memorial Day!

Maybe you are not completely well.

Lymetoo, I sure thought and still think that basically I am quite well all things considered.
I have been off all Lyme meds for a year and symptom free for that length of time.
The only time I seem to have a flare of the neuritis/neuropathy is when I am unfortunate enough to get one of these annoying bug bites.
It started early last spring when I discovered a tick embedded near my shoulder blade.
Only symptoms were like what I am having now.
Severe neuritis pain, low grade temp, general malaise.
Doctor started me back on Doxy therapy even though the only bug bites I have had are from area Buffalo Gnats.
Within 48 hours I was feeling remarkably better. Pain decreasing steadily.
I actually went out hiking yesterday and dirt bike riding.
I repelled down steep gullies rock hunting, thoroughly doused with deep woods off and protective clothing.
Energy levels returning.
I'm drinking gallons of lemon water and watching my carbs.
I cannot figure out why the insect bites are triggering the relapses.
Joalo, could you please explain to me the Up for input? Fraid that one is new to me.

Nemo,
Your post was on page two without any replies. So, I bumped it up to the top of page one so it would get seen by more people, and you would get some input. It looks like it worked!! Posted by Nemo (Member # 22783) on :
