I've been on Rif 300mg for a couple weeks now and felt strange...
Last night I upped it to 600mg/day and I felt really weird almost instantly. Anxiety increased (it's already bad all the time), felt shaky, diarrhea and I have trouble sleeping.
How do I know what's a med side effect and what is it doing it's job?
I woke up 4 times during the night with diarrhea and have the hardest time going back to sleep; I hate it!

How much diarrhea (not to get graphic)? You don't want to get c diff, which is a concern if you have much diarrhea.
Are you taking nystatin or something to prevent Candida? If not, you should ask your doc for something. And make sure that you are taking LOTS of high quality and potency probiotics in between doses (2 hours or more apart).
I would only up one dose at a time (one time per day), in order to let your body get used to it. Maybe for now go back to 300. But call your dr. We are not docs.
rifampin kills bartonella, which can cause lots of anxiety, hence the reaction. Slow down, I would think, go more slowly.

If you have rifampin too late in the day, it can cause insomnia. My LLMD told me to take the first dose in the a.m. and I could take the second dose in the early afternoon (1 or 2 pm)and see if that helped. (It did)
When you are first starting to take it, though, it might be a big herx causing you to not sleep as well. So sorry. I know how terrible it is to go through this. Our sleep is so healing.
I hope you feel better soon. I would speak to your MD about this as well as the diarrhea.

Hard to tell. I didn't tolerate RiFampin well and had to stop primarily because of muscular pain ), then start again on half dose and build. When I added Tinidazole, I developed terrible, excruciating hives from one or both.
I have had the Detoxigenomic profile done since then and both drugs were mentioned as ones that people with my polymorphisms may not handle normally.
This may have nothing to do with your experience, but I thought I'd mention it, as not everything is a Herx.

ukcarry that is interesting that it caused muscle pain. Did you have muscle pain prior to taking it? The muscle pain has been my number one lyme symptom and I feel the rifampin made it so much worse. What is a Detoxigenomic profile? Are you still on abx?

It's crazy how everyone is so different. I don't have any pain below my upper back and I have had back/jaw pain for years before all of this. My symptoms all seem to be neuro I guess?
