Anyone ever take Clindamycin and Zithromax together for Babesia? Anyone try 1,800 mg of Clindamycin daily? Feel free to PM me with details if you don't want to post on the forum. Note, this treatment is not coming from a LLMD so I'm posting it here. I welcome any thoughts.
I'm trying to fight Babesia WA-1.

never ever heard of that much in one day
I think I took 1/2 that. Not sure.

Someone posted recently about taking the dose you are asking about. I take 1200 mg daily along with another antibiotic and Mepron. Remember each med is different, so 1000 mg of one antibiotic will not be the same strength as 1000 mg of another.
I believe you need both an anti-malarial and an antibiotic to effectively treat Babs. I don't believe that antibiotics alone can eradicate it.

My doc rx'd that amount, much to my surprise. I am slowly working my way up. I'm now at 1,200 mg, about to increase by another 300. So it is done, don't know how often.
I wouldn't recommend going straight to that dosage though, unless you are made of steel. I haven't had any bad effects from it so far, other than having to stay on top of Candida from this plus other abx.
I agree about adding an antimalarial though.
Actually, on second thought, I've had a horrific amount of hyper/insomnia/anxiety stuff, but have no idea if it has anything at all to do with the clindamycin. I'm on a lot of other abx. Plus, it may be thyroid stuff, too.

Lymetoo, I'm pretty sure you took 1/3 of that dose. Posted by micul (Member # 6314) on :
That's equal to 600mg tid, which is a very common dose for Clindy. I took that much....started at the full dose, and combined it with 100 mg Doxy bid, + 500 mg Chloroquine daily + 2 tabs Primaquine bid + 500 mg Artemisinin bid.
Did it all for 30 days......it did help, but didn't get rid of the bugs!

yes, thats the amount my husband was taking daily. 900mg twice a day. It did nothing for him. So LLMD switched him to Vancomycin.

I also took 1200mg per day with Mepron. I got very flu-like at first and then it changed to extreme exhaustion for many weeks. The only thing that happened as a side effect was increased liver enzymes. I don't think it was the Mepron because when I combined it with other meds, my liver enzymes went down. Perhaps it was clindamycin. I'm not sure.
The second time for babesia I took Mepron/Doxy/Zith and I had a much more severe herx and then continual exhaustion and weakness that has lasted now even after stopping mepron.

Hubby did 600 mg IV clindamycin 3 times per day with quinine. Also was on 4 or 6 malarone daily. He did 4 cycles of 10 days on and 10 days off quinine. Took only 1 or 2 doses of the clindamycin on the off days. Then 2 more cycles of 21 days on 10 days off quinine.
I am thinking of adding back one IV dose of clindamycin daily to his current meds -- he has some left over from last year. The 4 grams a day of IV Rocephin is not doing much for his daily fevers. Fevers of 100.5 are wearing him out.
When we added in the IV flagyl at 500 mg daily to the IV clindamycin, oral qualaquin and malarone is when he started the fevers in 2011. I would still like to talk his doc into trying IV flagyl again -- the IV is so much more powerful than oral in my opinion.
Going to wait another week or so before I get more aggressive with hubby's babs meds again. The IV rocephin has stopped the seizure like spells and tremors and dystonia. Headaches and stiff neck and fevers and extreme fatigue are still major symptoms.
Hubby is currently on IV rocephin, low dose doxycycline, high dose malarone, high dose lariam, ivermectin and oral flgayl. I stopped his herbs and levaquin when his brain got so inflamed and the seizure like activity got out of control.
Sure wish I knew what the magic combo was. Can't really say for certain which infection is causing the fevers -- lyme, bartonella or babesia. Do plan to add back either levaquin, IV clindamycin or rifampin before his next LLMD appointment to see if we can figure out which direction to go in.
Hubby has been having pretty significant hemolysis every couple of weeks so obviously babs or bartonella are active but the hemolysis in itself frees up lots of hidden pathogens.

Seek what seemed to put hubby over the top and landed him in the ER 5 times and the hospital for 2 days all within a week was switching his doxy to mino and increasing his dose of ECGC green tea extract. In hindsight we think the mino was less effective than the doxy -- his fevers did start creeping up from 99.5
I think any babs treatment needs to include meds and herbs to be effective. And ECGC is one of the things I would say is a must. Research on both malaria and babesia says it keeps the parasites from adhering to the blood vessels and capillaries and doesn't allow them to get sequestered. As far as I know ECGC is the only substance with proven anti-adhesion factors. It also can kill babesia -- not sure if that is due to antioxidants or some other mechanism.
Hubby started with 120 mg daily and I increased it every 5 days or so. He was on 700 mg or so when we stopped -- that is close to the therapeutic dose.
He tried 2 or 3 different brands -- would suggest getting a brand that is decaffeinated.
This is not medical advice, just my opinion based on hubby's experiences.
