Dr Burrascano has always recommended Mag Tabs SR by Niche. I like this form of magnesium and have always had great results.
My question is... it's a sustained release tablet that lasts for 12 hours.
Even if I take it 4-5 hours away from levaquin will it still interfere with absorption of the abxs?
I have no idea how sustained release works.

My LLNP has me on the Mag tabs Sr along with my abx. I usually take it several hrs after and have not had any problems.

I would not repeatedly use a product that contains DC yellow #10 as Mag Tabs by Niche does. That product was on the recommended list 14 years ago when people did not pay as much attention to ingredients.

So what brand would then be recommended?

that's great, I just ordered two bottles because it was on his list.

This explains where the idea of no mag came from and how misguided it may be. http://lymenaide.wordpress.com/2010/03/13/magnesium-friend-or-foe/ Magnesium has been a lifesaver for me. My muscles were in constant spasm without it.

Thank you for that, Ellen! It gets so confusing with this disease - as there are so many conflicting opinions out there. I plan on continuing with my magnesium supplements after reading that article.

Canefan, Slow release drugs work the way they do because the SR tablets have an enteric coating resistant to the high acidity levels present in the stomach.
This enables enteric coated tablets to pass into the small intestine, where pH is higher, before starting to be absorbed into the body.
This is why slow release tablets should never be crushed or broken before swallowing them.
I think the most ideal spacing of abx and mg is to take the mg 4-5 hours after abx. Although the mg is still being absorbed by the body in the small intestine 5 hours after taking it, it has moved out of the stomach by then.
