I have multiple family members with lyme. We are being treated by an LLMD. For us to go see Dr H will cost a small fortune, between his fees and more lab costs. That is not my main issue - I would pay anything to get my family well. But, it is part of my bigger question - since we are all late stage at this point (thank you to all of the regular medical doctors who didn't treat us properly), and there is no "cure" for this - is there anything that Dr H will do that others can't, or does he just try different protocols and hope something works?
None of us are what I would consider "tough" cases - we all function well, have enough energy to live somewhat of a normal life and can deal with the aches/pains.

My whole family has Lyme and co's and over the past year we all switched over to Dr. H in NY (3 hr drive).
While none of us is well, I would say we have seen improvements in all, after years with other LLMDs.
What I like about Dr. H is how his practice uses both traditional and herbal meds, and how they look at the big picture - testing for everything up front, including using almost every possible Lyme/Co blood test, heavy metals, adrenal function, thryoid function, etc.
Also they use lots of supplements, and have strategies for alleviating herxes, and pain.
Generally they seem to change the antibiotic/herbal protocol every few months, to keep hitting at different angles.
Especially with the supplements, the cost is not insignificant for a whole family.
We see one of the two PAs there - both are highly regarded. We get to see Dr. H occasionally.
Good luck and let me know if I can help with any questions.

Please see this video from a Lyme Conference that was held at Skidmore College in NY in May 2012. Dr. H addresses the assembly at marker 23:50, but be sure to catch the introduction by his patient Leah, beginning at 20:20. Judge for yourself.
@ 16:23 Introductions, Panel and CV Dr. H, Founder, ILADS @ 20:28 "Leah" Lyme and Babesia patient of Dr. H @ 23:50 Dr. H, has seen 12,000+ Lyme patients in past 25 years - MSIDS "Multi-systemic Infectious Disease Syndrome"

It's a personal choice. I myself have a wicked case of babs, so for me he's worth it.

I see him and overall am pleased. I have to say that I"m disappointed that Dr. H doesn't seem to be the best listener. The ego is pretty big.
Just need to be aware of that.

catgirl,
How long have you been treating babs with this doc? Hubby has tried everything for babs in the docs recent presentation plus more over the last 18 months and is still battling WA-1. Just wondering if the doc has any new meds or herbs available?
Hubby is very reluctant to go to another doc for yet another opinion -- we saw 3 different LLMD's in 2011 plus his current one.

Almost 4 mos. I'm on malarone and crypto for the babs and Byron White, diflucan and nystatin for everything else. Oh, and a boat load of supplements too.
Something's working. I herx every weekend like clockwork, then every four weeks.
Has your hubby tried the glut pushes yet (help some people)?

Bea, I don't think he has any ideas/treatments you have not tried on your husband. I don't think any LLMD does. He's been on more and higher doses than anyone I read about here.

Bea, has your hubby been tested for protomyxzoa yet? It may be protecting the babs.

Hoops,
I would look into treating for parasites/worms before I would spend any more money. I don't think this doctor goes after these infections which have long been overlooked even by the best LLMDs.
After seeing one of the best LLMDs, and 4 yrs of abx I waa still sick. What turned the corner for me was going after these infections with antiparasitic herbs and salt/c. Thirty days is never enough, you have to treat until symptom free.
Check out the symptom list at Humaworm for parasites, Some people on here are having success with Ivermectin, a broad spectrum antiparasitic.
