I was wondering if anyone with a known sulfa drug allergy was able to safely perform the metals DMSA test (i.e. with a 'Doctor's Data' or similar test kit)? And by safely, I mean experienced no allergic response (i.e. hives, itching, etc.) whatsoever.
Any comments, thoughts, etc. from those in this very position would be most appreciated.

- It can be confusing and I wondered at first until I found out that:
Sulfa is not the same thing as sulfur.
DMSA does not contain Sulfa.
I have a sulfa allergy and (despite sensitivities to many Rx in general) I did splendidly with the (sulfur-containing) DMSA challenge (according to the specifications for the Doctors Data 24-hour urine collection).
As soon as the collection process is completed, you might want to also take support supplements that would go along with the DMSA - especially Chlorella. -

I straightened out my confusion over sulfa and sulfur just last night...and I should have been more clear in my post.
Like you, I have experienced many adverse reactions/sensitivies to various Rx's (and even over-the-counter drugs), so I am very happy to hear that even the sulfur didn't pose a problem for you.
Apparently, some people with true Sulfa drug allergies, can in fact experience problems when sulfonamides (or other sulfur-containing agents) bind to various complexes/proteins in the body and then in turn, create an allergic response.
Again, I am just so glad to learn that you were successful with this test!

I used Doctors Data to look for heavy metals and used DMSA.
I had no issues.
The results also made me happy. I (shockingly) do not have high levels of metals. Everything was low or in range.
You can also do a hair test for toxic metals w/ Doctors Data. I have done that too. Urine w/ DMSA is more reliable, though.

Many people are unable to release any metals when doing the DMSA or DMPS Challenge test with Doctor's Data. I took many tests and never showed a molecule of any toxic metals in the test. And yet, I know now that after extensive other treatments, I was loaded with mercury and lead and nickle, etc. all along. Energetic testing during certain periods shows the toxicity, but not on a consistent basis.
The Allergy Immun test and therapy removed the dysregulation from my autonomic nervous system. I was allergic, never showing any obvious symptoms. But once the first bottle of Allergie Immun was done, I started to show metals. I now do DMPS and DMSA almost daily to remove a lifelong accumulation that would not budge before.
We have no conlcusive Lyme tests and we obviously do not have any conclusive toxic metal tests. The ranges shown with any of these tests is just as inconclusive.
When neurological symptoms persist, metal toxicity cannot be ruled out. The body has its own biological clock and shows when it is ready.

I have a sulfa allergy and could not tolerate DMSA - got bad allergic reaction.
I cannot take anything with sulfa or sulfur in it.
According to my LLMD those with sulfa allergies can and many time do cross react with sulfur. I have to avoid things like NAC and Chlorella.

Those with DMSA problems need to check themselves for Mold exposure. (per Dr. K.)
Gigi- Thanks so much for your input. Fortunately, I am in the process of undergoing all of the tests (metals, parasite screen, mold)of which you speak. Thank you for your very helpful advice!
desertwind- Thank you as well, for your response. Your information is as I feared... I was made hopeful that I might not have a problem with the test (after reading Keebler's response), however, once I read your post, I was brought back down to reality and now remain worried that my fate with the metals challenge will be like yours.
desert...mind my asking what your allergic reaction was like/consisted of? Please feel free to PM me your response.
On a positive note, I have been instructed to take various antihistamines for this test, and will actually be doing it in the setting of medical professionals. However, I am still quite nervous for my test day!
