Dyna3495, often dental toxins/infections spread and your dentist must make sure that there is no infection remaining in the area.
I started with one root canal. When the tooth was replaced it took a bridge to do it, and usually teeth used for bridging suffer and then later die needing another root canal. That is how I ended up with a mouth full of bridges and root canals.
Go only to the best who understand this. Cutting down another tooth to accommodate a bridge is torture for that tooth and often the nerves in it die. The area has to be thoroughly cleaned out! Just pulling the tooth is not enough.
It is is a lower tooth, I would never again get a bridge, but get a partial for that one tooth. It should be replaced to keep your bite well and avoid backaches.

whitmore, I know several people who have done the non-metal implants. one had to have a bone craft. They are happy with their teeth.
It should only be done when infections have been dealt with.
All were done in Germany. Am not familiar with the implants that are done here.
I would do it in a hurry if I needed it.
On the other hand, two people I know did titanium implants. Both have problems. One has cancer. The other person had to have hip replacement. Metals do not belong in the body!

I was just told I need a root canal. What choice do I have but to do it? I was also started on Clindamycin today for the absess. In my whole Lyme career I haven't taken that particular abx surprisingly and am not familiar with it so I don't know what it's going to do to me and am nervous as I have a christening this weekend and my husband and I are Godparents.
So, what is the alternative when you are told you need a root canal?

So extracting the tooth would be the way to go? From the article Gigi posted it sounds like that is equally as bad but the article doesn't say what the alternative is to root canal or extraction. The tooth is in the front and I do have some vanity left so I don't know what to do.

Does anyone know of a dentist in Western MA that can help me. I'm annoyed b/c the dentist that sent me to the Endo is supposed to be a little more alternative than most but he knows all my issues and still sent me to a root canal specialist! I feelt like I'm playing beat the clock here and have to figure out what to do with this tooth.

Thanks GiGi. I was told that I will probably need a root canal. I have a "dead tooth". It doesn't hurt but there's some infection at the tip of the root... I don't know if it's better to have it removed or not. If it's not removed properly (according to the article) - it's a problem, too...
I read most of the article. I'll read the rest later. It's complicated. I had braces as a kid... Hoe can one restore the meridians after all of the dental work that has been done?

There are posts from dentists who have arguements from the opposite side, as well... Not that he's a "traditionalist" but he does present some options in thinking about the issue.
There is a line of thinking among many dentists in the holistic community that root canals are necessarily "bad" and should be removed if you have them and never done if you need one... Well, that's fine if there's some reasonable alternative. Sometimes there is.... and sometimes there is not !
Before you let any dentist remove any of your teeth - possibly making you a dental cripple - check out what treatment options are being offered following the tooth (or teeth) removal and see if what is offered makes sense to you.....
Always remember, it's YOUR body, and only YOU can decide what's right for it ! Don't wait until AFTER the teeth are extracted to find out that you don't like the options!!!! It's too late then!
Get a good understanding of the issues so you can make an informed decision about your body !!!!!

Note [this really just happened ! ] :-(
As I'm in my office writing this section, the phone rang. A young woman wanted an appointment for a consultation about getting a partial denture (removable bridgework..."like her grandparents wore"...). She had all the molars extracted on the lower jaw on one side....
Her "holistic" dentist had told her she had infections and cavitations...and the teeth had to come out. No options were offered. He scared the "stuff" out of her. And so...as often happens ... she went along. She never thought about "...then what?".
.........Never having experienced several missing teeth before, she had no idea how devastating it might be or feel. I felt very, very sad for her.
She was now in touch with her anger about having been told to take out those teeth. She said she would never have done it if she really understood the implications...
She said she had no intention of going back "to him" to have the rest of the treatment finished. She was sick about it....and so was I. I'm not totally 100% convinced about how big a problem she might have had with the infections and cavitations she was told she had..., but I am 100% certain she's really got a problem now for sure !!!!

I told a friend about the meridians & teeth & he told me about his grandmother who lived to be 100 without most of her teeth. Not everyone who has dental problems & missing teeth is going to be ill with the type of things that alot of us suffer with.
Pathogens are everywhere. I'm not really sure if we have bacteria & pathogens in our gums that we will all be sick from it. I don't know if these studies done in the 1920's are still relevant. I've been to some "holistic" dentists who I thought were absolute crooks.
Someone I know is in pretty good health, otherwise, who smokes & who had serious periodontal disease. She had to have alot of teeth removed & has partials... In general, she's alot healthier than I am, though.
So - all of this takes some thinking... You don't want to end up with no teeth, unnecessarily. I like being able to chew. I'd prefer to not to have to wear dentures. Then, you have to deal with that whole issue.

Without copying everything here - he suggests using Calcium hydroxide to fill the canal with.

Thank you so much everyone for the information. DD needs a root canal and I have been wanting more info on same. Sparkle-I will definitely ask about the calcium hydroxide. So good to have all this info beforehand.
