I have a question and until I can speak to my husbands LLMD on Monday, didn't know if anyone had any comments. We have a good friend that was just diagnosed with a rare blood disorder. He is in need of a stem cell/or bone marrow donor. My husband has chronic Lyme disease. I'm wondering if I can be tested to be a potential donor. I have read Lyme can be sexually transmitted. So just kind of throwing the question out there for now.
Thanks

Not sure if this applies...

The Red Cross of Ohio will not except blood from a donor that has a Lyme infection that has not responded to treatment.

I would translate that to if you are still symptomatic after the 4 weeks the IDSA thinks it should take to treat Lyme, then they will not accept your blood.

If you are healthy, of course you can be tested to be a donor!

Your husband is sick so he should not be a donor.

Most LLMD's do not believe lyme is sexually transmitted. No medical literature to support this theory. Lyme bacteria has been found in semen I think but that still does not prove transmission.

I would get tested if you are healthy.
