I am waiting to start IV treatment in the next month. My neuro symptoms have gotten much worse over the last 2 months and the 24/7 brain agitation is extremely hard to deal with. Does anyone have any suggestions for meds that might help take the edge off while I wait for the abx to start killing the infection. I think it is encephalitis doing this and it is driving me crazy. Perhaps anti-anxiety or anti-seizure meds may help? Any advice is appreciated..

Have you tried Lorazepam or clonazepam? I am on them for insomnia but my friend who also has lyme takes them during the day to help with agitation

Tried magnesium?? It has a calming effect and is often used by patients who are DETOXING off of addictive drugs!
Lorazepam is highly addictive, as are all of the benzodiazepenes.
Neurontin is an anti-seizure med that is being prescribed "off label" for folks with neuro pain. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't, but for sure it is a pscychotropic.
Glad to hear you are beginning IV soon - which is most likely the BEST thing you could do to beat back your neuro lyme! Good luck!

Be careful with benzos.
It took me eight months, tapering very slowly, to get off 3mg of klonopin/clonazepam.
They can be highly addictive and the effects are insidious. I did not know I was addicted 'til went on a trip and left them at home.
Thought I was going to have a heart attack.
Stupid md told me how safe they were when he prescribed.
Not so.
Some anti-depressants can help with anxiety and are not as habit-forming.

thanks. can anyone recommend any anti-anxiety or anti-depressant meds which have worked well for them for anxiety and agitation?

Trazodone, maybe? I take Xanax for occasional anxiety. Thankfully, I don't need it often.
