I don't really have sleep problems. But I go through periods of waking in night. It's always at the same time.
The last few nights I've slept fine except waking at exactly 4:45 am. Weird. I go back to sleep after a while. It's just annoying. And I wake out of a deep sleep and am wide awake.
It's strange because I do this a while then stop and sleep through the night no problem.
I've heard of sleep cycles and stuff. Is it the lyme? Anyone else do this for a short time then back to normal? Back and forth?

I used to wake up at 3am every morning. A friend told me that was the hour of the liver and so my liver was being effected. Makes sense considering all the antibiotics I was taking. Don't know what the other hours represent.

I usually wake every hour and a half. Very frustrating and tiring..

- Google: Chinese Body Clock.
Similar to circadian rhythms, when certain organs or systems are hot & irritated, or "cold" and stagnant, they can affect sleep patterns during the time when that organ or system is set to task to repair and regenerate.
Low Blood sugar can also wake us. A small snack with the trio of complex carbs, protein & fat -- an hour before bed should help.
One quarter of an avocado is perfect, maybe with 1/4 cup of quinoa. Maybe a handful of nuts with a bite or two of black rice and a bit of broccoli or greens. -

I used to wake up at midnight, 3 and 6 am needing to urinate. Last year I was dx'd with sleep apnea (over 30 episodes per hour). After I started using the CPAP I sleep like a rock.
Have you had a checkup for sleep apnea?

I second Keebler on Chinese body clock. I would look at the body clock when I'd awaken at the same time and it would give me an idea of what organ to support/detox.
Ellen, if you're waking up every hour and a half, I would bet you're not able to fulfill a complete sleep cycle. One sleep theory is biphasic sleep ... that we have two four hour sleep cycles ... which is why we may wake up in the middle of the night, then sleep four more hours.
If you're waking up every hour and a half, could it be your sleep cycle is that short? You need better sleep to heal. Talk to your LLMD if you haven't already.

I think there is something in Wilson's book on Adrenal Fatigue about this.

Randibear - that right rib pain was what I had for years!!! I used to wake up around 3 am too, which coincides with the Chinese Circadian Rhythms for the liver. For me, it was the liver and was helped some with getting out of the mold we had in our house and taking LiverLife by Bioray Natural.
Recently (September) I started a nutritional cleanse which made that pain go away completely (and ALL of my other symptoms) I have had 65 good days in a row... and feel better than I have in over 20 years.

I have the same thing, but I get a radiating pain in my left pelvic area and left buttock muscle.
I wake up at 3:00 almost every night.
I want to support my liver. I have tried Milk Thistle and my body hates it.
Any other suggestions for detoxing the liver. I also need to detox my kidneys.

Possibly hormones? Since working on hormones, I do feel better.

As you treat the lyme disease and coinfections it gets better. Don't worry about it, and try to take a nap during the day. I function better with a nap, even if it is 20-30 minutes.

I want to know why I often wake up around 2 or 3 a.m. and I'm freezing cold. Then around 8 or 9 a.m. I am hot!
'course now, I DID put my blanket over me better at 3 a.m.... but it just seems weird that by "late" morning I wake up hot.
