My daughter is having a horrible few days about every 3.5 weeks. Mean, aggressive, filled with "icky goo."

She is in Lyme treatment. This kind of cycle is normal for a child?

Give me hope please, she is only 5 years old.

Thank you!

In my experience with my 3 and 6 year olds, this is very typical. 3-4 weeks follows the Lyme cycle to a T. Hang in there mama, this HAS to get better!

Mine actually seems to cycle every 2 weeks. He tested positive for lyme and bartonella and started treatment 2 weeks ago.

Wendy, I wonder if the Bartonella cycles a bit more often? Our LLMD just yesterday told me that Babesia cycles about every two weeks. I didn't realize that.

I just wanted to expand on some things now that I have a bit more time. Hopefully it's helpful!

Things I have been doing to make the herx cycles a bit more tolerable have been:
- Epsom salt and peroxide baths
- Lemon water (they have their own 'special' glass bottles (the cool ones with colored rubber wrapped around them) that is for them to drink their lemon water out of. Some days they don't want the lemon, I let them choose.
- Coconut oil swishing. They now do this rarely, but it is great to have them do in the morning.
- Regulate the intake of sugars. We haven't banned it completely because, they are still children and deserve a treat once in a while. Overall it's probably a treat a week and they eat a pretty good, organic, veggie based diet otherwise (as much as possible - some of this is a bit more on my idealistic side than the realistic side)

Make sure, if they aren't already, that they have a good probiotic daily. My children also like to drink the probiotic Kefir smoothie (sometimes there is enough sweet in that to be the treat).

Good luck!

YinYang, thanks for the suggestions. I was just wondering (as my daughter woke up in yet another day of bad moods) how to make the cycle easier for her.

We did an epsom salt bath yesterday, which helped a little.

I have also found that rigorous exercise can help (e.g., running thru the sprinklers)

and her DAN dr. suggested "zen" from allergy research (it's basically l-theanine) which also helps. We also use "calm" magnesium citrate. This mellows her right out.

It is a tough cycle for them.

How do you all deal with school/camp/playdates etc. during these down cycles?

My daughter starts hitting and acting out, which is not normally in her character. It is horrible, because she then starts getting bad feedback from teachers and peers. It becomes a vicious cycle.

Thanks all.
