If I had Lyme would I have a reaction when being put on Doxycycline? Throwing up,the meanest head pain ever, nausea, vertigo, lost taste, unable to eat from esophogus pain, an endless cough and the need to sleep. Ended up in the ER. ( was on methotrexate, plaquenil and predinsone at the time by my rheumy for uctd. My pcp put me on Doxy for a bad cough. On the chest xray there was nothing. Crazy stuff. App with new LLD doc coming up, can not wait. Trying to sort through all this.

Yes, you would almost definitely react negatively to doxy if you had Lyme. Doxy is a very tough med for me.
The esophagus pain and nausea could very likely be from not taking doxy with enough food and water though. That could be fairly easily remedied in the future.
Steroids on the other hand are almost always avoided with Lyme. They are extremely detrimental with a Lyme infection.
Good luck at your appointment I hope it's soon!

I hope you know that if there is any chance you have lyme disease, you should not be on prednisone or any other type of steroid.
These types of meds shut down your immune system and that lets the lyme go wild. Some have gotten incurabe cases of lyme that way.
This is what Burrascano says about it:
"More evidence has accumulated indicating the severe detrimental effects of the concurrent use of immunosuppressants including steroids in the patient with active B. burgdorferi infection. Never give steroids or any other immunosuppressant to any patient who may even remotely be suffering from Lyme, or serious, permanent damage may result, especially if given for anything greater than a short course." (page 12)
Wow.. doxy combined with your other meds is really going to do a number on your stomach! OUCH!!
Be sure to take the doxy in the MIDDLE OF YOUR MEAL with a full glass of water and do not lie down for an hour afterwards.

Doxy is a tough drug to swallow. You really have to watch what and when you are putting things into your body while taking it. That being other drugs and food.
Doxy made me feel like sh!!!, but I was also positive for Lyme.
The thing is if you have Lyme you will def feel poorly after taking doxy because of the bacteria that begin to die. They release toxins into the body that cause inflammation and pain. This often exaggerates the Lyme symptoms for a while, but is good because it means your getting better.
I do not know about the drugs you are taking with it, but you need to be very careful if you have Lyme to not take something that will make the Lyme worse without curing you. You may feel poorly and think it is good because of the herx reaction you hear of. When really you are taking a combination of drugs that will make you sicker.
You really need to talk to an LLMD who knows more about the drug interactions.
