While looking for info on herxing on bicillin I stumbled across this info and really thought it was informative. At one point it explains how herxing may actually not be such a good thing.
" Pain management Md's have told me pain actually can weaken the immune system (see post regarding getting pain levels under control) Herxing creates toxins, toxins create inflammation, inflammation can create autoimmune diseases and pain causing the immune system function to decrease even more"

I actually had a conversation with my LLNP about cyst busters, as to when to use them etc. She said she does not use cyst busters until she feels symptoms are under control as to hit the body with too much at once will just be detrimental to the immune system.

I agree. The body is already under so much stress with infection. Herxing is inevetable, but it doesn't have to cripple you. Some believe it is best to bombard, some to work up. It's a personal issue.

My daughter tried both. Ending up in the ER is not a good idea. They don't know what to do with you when you are in nondescript pain. They just think you are a drug addict.

I agree. Too much die off (herx) is damaging to the immune system...It's overload. I finally experienced sustained improvement in symptoms when I found Dr. S's protocols (he uses Dr. Zhang herbs). Even then, I increased my doses VERY gradually and over a long period, one herb at a time. I took enough to cause some herx, but not so much that I couldn't work, function and enjoy my life. When I was on IV antibiotics, the herx was horrible and included seizure like symptoms, pain the made me groan in my sleep and lymph nodes so swollen that a narcotic didn't help the pain!... And for all the months on oral antibiotics, all I got was never ending exhaustion, swollen lymph nodes, and numerous other symptoms. It was my gradual, natural healing with the herbs that truly changed my life. Thank God for Dr. S and Dr. Zhang. They helped me get my life back :-)

I agree completely. After a few rough herxes I learned to take it a little slower. I pulsed, often on Mon-Wed-Fri. But I also from time to time would mix it up, keep the little buggers not knowing for sure when they were gone get smacked!

A Dr. Brown who treated arthritis many moons ago with ABX felt that to much inflammation was counterproductive. Ever since then I try to keep the herx down to a low simmer, something that I can still function with.
