I'd been thinking that my headaches and facial pain were from babesia (as they seemed to start after my first pulse with artemisinin), but I've also been having pain in the left side of my jaw for a couple of weeks.
I clench my teeth at night, and when I read the symptoms of TMJ - headaches, facial pain, jaw pain, trouble opening your mouth wide, teeth shifting - it all seemed to fit.
Anyone know if these could be symptoms from babesia or if it's TMJ? Any suggestions for getting rid of the pain?

I don't know if it's from lyme or babesia, but TMJ was one of my symptoms!
I clenched at night, had trouble opening my mouth very wide and chewing was very uncomfortable - clicks and pops - and even painful.
It went away on its own for me, over time. I don't know why it did. I was very careful not to open my mouth very wide, especially when yawning. Yawning was the tough one!

I also had this. Mine went away once I started abx.

That's hilarious. Everyone's went away after treatment and mine had developed while treating and got worst with continued treatment.
Nemom, what ABX combo got rid of it for you?

Yes, I still have it. Believe it or not, as soon as I stopped chewing gum, I haven't had any bad episodes...I used to get the clicking and loud cracking in my jaw, even dislocated it from yawning. that was scary!
I"m still careful though, I don't chew gum..ever and I make sure not to yawn really big.

try to wear a night guard.
I had TMJ real bad way before Lyme and co's entered the picture. Back then it was weekly visits to a specialist using an appliance to gradually chnge the position of my jaw.
Once completed, it was off to get braces to change position of ALL my teeth to match the new jaw position. Took about 3 years. I still use an expensive night brace to help hold he position and reduce clenching at nite.

I had it bad before abx. Now it flares up when I'm herxing.

PARASITES....Alot of info. on the connection between parasite and TMJ issues/night time clenching.
Might want to check out Neuromuscular Dentistry -getting a bite splint (different from a night gaurd)does help alot of people.
TMJ is one of my worst pains. Mine came on after a very bad bite adjustment. Dentist took off too much tooth structure and I have had problems ever since.
I have done the bite splint route - helped a little bit. Now I am just wearing a night guard made by my general dentist.
Sometimes wearing anything in my mouth makes it worse - despite continued adjustments.
I really do not know if TBI's are at the route of this or not (since mine flared after my tooth structure was removed) but it does seem to feel worse when I am herxing.
Topical and oral Magnisium helps a bit.

When I started Ceftin and Azith. It comes back occasionally when I am herxing.

Lyme here for me. Happened 3 and 1/2 years after the tick bite. Had a splint made.
Now my chiropractor fixes it with the use of an arthrostim, a hand-held machine that can be set to up to 12 taps a second, and on any level of force, so in this case, gentle! It's called KST technique.

I have had this for years. I finally figured out it was parasite related. Acupuncture and anti parasitic herbs help.

Right. Very loud, embarrassing cracking going on at 5:00 p.m. here-
It is me, eating dinner.
Mine has just come on in the last few years, also more prominent during treatment.
I'm a clencher. Trying to be more concious of that- Hope it resolves with further treatment.

Mino fixed it for me. Magnesium helps it also.

Thanks for the responses! Mine also came on since treatment started.
I've clenched my teeth at night since I was a child but never had TMJ pain until now.
Interesting notes about parasites. This started during my first Humaworm round, which I did b/c I knew I'd had pinworms in the past (passed on from my kids).
Can anyone recommend another easy regimen to follow up Humaworm? It can't be crazy, as I can barely fit my abx, probiotics, and herbal supplements into my crazy schedule as it is now.

I also have the same problem. I'm a clencher. Mine did begin while I was ill, before I knew it was Lyme.
It has a relation to my migraines as well.

Mine is flaring up BIG time the last couple of days.
For parasite have you tried a combo of Black Walnut, Cloves and Wormwood? I am using a tinture with all 3 in plus Byron White A-P and Pin-X every 2 weeks. I am having success with that plan.
Still, my jaw is crazy neuroy sore and I had to resort to Gabapentin last night.
I just started treating for Bart and it seems to be getting worse. All TBI's like weakened areas so maybe lyme did not cause it but it still could be settling in there.

I've had TMJ for years (had Lyme for years, too!) and it gets worse when I am flaring or herxing.
I've had two custom night guards, neither of which helped all that much ...
BUT, I got a night guard from the drugstore recently that HELPS A TON!
It is called Sleep Right Dura Comfort -- and it totally stopped by tooth grinding and has relieved about 75% of my jaw and facial pain.

I too think it is parasites.

Before treatment I had jaw pain and lots of clicking. I also had extreme sensitivity in my upper gums.
I was just realizing that I no longer have that sensitivity and I hardly hear anymore clicking. I was treated for bart on rifampin and doxy for a few months and have been treated for babesia the last 4 months. Perhaps this is what has helped?
