I have been taking doxy now for 3 weeks. A week ago I started having constant urge to urinate and
pain when peeing. In the beginning I thought that it was a herx symptom but the pain there become
more and more severe. So one night I decided to try Amoxicylin which I was prescribed before for
UTI. 30 min after took it the pain was gone. I continued taking it for 5 days and stopped it
because I felt very irritated, sore and red down there.
So now, one day after I stopped the antibiotic I can't sleep again because of the constant urge to
urinate and the pain down there. I took Amoxicillin again but this time it didn't help.
I can't sleep because of it and I am in a lot of pain. Any ideas why the amoxi didn't work?

Usually the best drug for UTIs is cipro - it kills ecoli and staph according to my doctor and targets a wider range of bacteria . The amoxi is not killing the bacteria causing the infection and this happens a lot . My doc says it is best to use cipro .
I had to stop lyme abx because of constant problems like this that also turned into kidney infections . I was not improving much anyway ith them .
I also found drinking lots of citrus made my problems far worse instead of better .

I went through this so many times before I figured it all out (over a year). Bactrim ds and cipro are the best abx for UTIs. Cipro is the strongest stuff you can get. The problem I had was that my pcp didn't give me enough of it. They generally give you enough for 3, 5 or 7 days. I needed 10, so my UTIs kept coming back.
I tried bactrim ds for 10 days on my last UTI (worked great). That was a few months ago, so I know I killed it.
I also discovered that I was accidentally sabotaging my UTI medicine (not supposed to have it with dairy/magnesium). I took it every am with some quinoa (lots of magnesium in it) and some almond or rice milk, which also had calcium in it (which diminishes the strength of the abx, which is why it kept coming back).
If you are mindful of what you are taking with it, you can kill your UTI for good. Good luck!
P.S. You might want to up your probiotics.

a week? please get checked out. its easy for a doc to dx you and get onthe right drug. my sister put it off a week and almost died last month.
dont always blame it on a herx
dont always blame it on lyme
fix what you can

Get it checke out. I ended up in the hospital last spring for a kidney infection. They use IV Rocephin and followed it up with Cipro. They can also culture it to find out what abx will be best.
Don't mess around with UTI's.
Be sure you're staying hydrated. Mine was likely caused by dehydration after having been sick with a stomach bug.
