I walked my dog last night and this morning I pulled a tick out of my calf by the head with a tweezer. It looked like i pulled out flesh with it.
My calf is sore like I've worked out hard but i haven't. What should I do?

Btw - this is what happened to my 41 yr old brother in law.
I already have chronic lyme, bartonella, etc.

Can you have your BIL see your LLMD? The best thing would be to start treating with ABX right away. I'm sure the veterans will chime in soon!

I'm mixed up - is this for you or your brother-in-law? Whoever it is needs some preventive antibiotics just in case the tick is infected, which means seeing an LLMD or LLND for adequate dosage.

Are you currently being treated? You need to let your doctor know.
Did you save the tick? Even though testng is likely not 100%, I would have it tested at IgeneX.

I heard if the tick is on the skin less than 24 hours you should be ok, don't necessarily have to take preventative doxycyline... and should just watch out for symptoms?

Personally, I don't believe attachment time is relevant. The tick that bit me was attached for three hours at most, and it transmitted five diseases.

By the time symptoms show up....all heck has broken loose in his body. NO, I would never ever wait for sx to start.
I would go to an Immediate Care if I didn't have a PCP and insist they put me on doxy 300-400mg for 30 days. 45 days even better.
I had 2 Lone Star nymphs on me for maybe 6 hrs and I already had lyme & co, but became even more ill with another tick borne infection.
Being bit by a day needs abx ASAP. Better safe than sorry and travel down this horrible road.

Personally, I don't believe attachment time is relevant. I am not an epidemiologist, but it seems to me that infection could occur once the tick's saliva goes into the bloodstream.
The tick that bit me was attached for three hours at most, and it transmitted five diseases.

There is no time that a tick (if carrying infection) can be safety attached and breaking skin. No time at all.
Within just 12 hours of that bite through skin, borrelia can get to the nervous system. Of course, the earlier one can seek advice of a LLMD, the better.

My tick was attached for less than six hours and I was sick for more than 5 years from it.
