I am supposed to start my 12 yr old on Mepron for a minimum of 30 days and see how he does. I know nothing about this medicine.
He is currently taking Azith, augmentin, Rifampin and Diflucan. He pulses with GSE on the weekends and ART the first 10 days of the month.
So what can we expect and is there anything I need to know about this drug?
Thanks

It should be taken with fat and your LLMD should be monitoring liver enzymes frequently while on this one.
For me it was not horrendous for herxing, but my liver enzymes went way up and it forced me off ALL meds several times despite aggressive liver support.
Looking back, I thought things were bad then symptom-wise, but they are much worse now, so I would jump at the chance to go back on it.

My son at age 15 tried mepron and couldn't handle the taste. He switched to malarone. He has more fatigue with mepron but it diminished with time. He didn't herx like he did on art. That was the hardest thing for him to take ever. Maybe your little guy's babesia load is down with art and mepron won't be too big of a deal.
Do not have your son take COQ10 with it or vitamin E.
My son's liver enzymes have been fine for 2.5 years in treatment. He takes ALA and milk thistle twice a day.
Is the diflucan every day of the month? Has he tried nystatin?
I hope he is getting better with his regimen.
My youngest starts bicillin shots this week and I will be seeking help with getting ready for that.

im pretty sure you arent suppose to take rifamin with mepron becasuse it decreases the effectivness of mepron
