when i lay down at night my head and back get so hot i can barely stand to lay down. the heat just radiates off my back onto the sheets. i feel like my body is burning up.
but it's only my back and head, not my legs. wierdest thing.
hormones or something or just lyme???

Before bed, does your back get some breathing time after sitting in a chair?
Is your mattress foam? If so, that can explain a lot. If so, go for a thick all cotton mattress pad. An old quilt often works.
Sleepwear is best being 100% cotton, too, with no telfon no-iron chemical coating to it. -

hmmm, sleep flat on my back when i lay down, then switch to sides as i get so hot. our sheets are eqyptian cotton and my night shirt is cotton. panties are silk tho.
i like to take a warm bath before i got to bed.
our mattress is a new stearns & foster pillow top king.
however, we spend alot of the time in den and it has leather sofa and loveseat.
i'm not on hormones and am 64. this is most annoying... i don't sweat tho, it's just heat.

Randi, did you get a new matress pad? We once discovered that a platic backed or even polyester matress pad made both of us rally hot.

Yes I did but George doesn't like the plastic backed ones so ours is a soft quilted one. I put a mattress cover on tho even if it is pillow top. He's got a nasty habit of spilling stuff in bed.

Check and see if it is not 100% cotton? I use a mattress pad too...it just makes sense you can wash it ...can't wash a mattress. But I get hot if it not 100% cotton, especially the covering but best if even the fill is cotton. Good luck... I remember on our honeymoon... The hotel in Paris had a plastic backed pad... OMG...it was the weirdest heat sensation just like you described.

- If it's got any kind of water protection to it, it's not going to be 100% cotton even if the label says so but it will be encased in the water-proof treatment. THAT could be making you hot.
BTW, such water proof treatments can be linked to cancer and endocrine disruptions (which can cause heat and hormone changes). More detail at sites for The Environmental Working Group and also Rachel's Friends.
Sure would for me. No fabric treatments at all or my body knows it. -
