Does anyone have any experience with artemether/lumefantrine to treat Babesia? It has artemisinin in it and is used to combat Malaria. I am wondering if this could help treat Babs.

It is what seemed to knock the babesia out for me. I took rounds of it every 3 to 4 weeks for several months. I also took malarone during that time and the Coartem seemed to give it a big boost.

At the end of last summer the babesia was pretty much gone and protomyxao took over. You can tell if this happens to you because your symptoms will be slightly different. Although you will remain exhausted and still get headaches and body pain, - instead of sleeping, you will get insomnia.

Malarone and mepron are usually give with zithro, which I developed an allergy to. You need to quit the zithro 3 days before you do the Coartem and not restart it until three days after. I took the malarone (mepron) right up to the day before and then started it back the day after Coartem.

If that doesn't do the job, you can try primaquine and chloroquine. Be careful of chloroquine because it stays in your system +/- 30 days. It is very powerful.

By itself I don't think Coartem will do much. If included as part of a comprehensive babesia treatment plan then it might help.

Hubby did coartem in 2010 I think it was but at that time his doc did not have him on any other babesia drugs. He tried different frequencies of taking the 3 day treatment -- shorter intervals between treatments were more helpful than longer intervals. I think he did 3 rounds with 2 weeks in between and 3 rounds with 3 weeks in between if I remember correctly.

I took it as part of my Babs tx. Was also on other Bab.'s meds over the course of 10 months.
Only did one round of Coartem.

I am free of Bab.'s sx. (for now) and only on liposome ART, B.W. herbs and Clindamycin.

It is hard to tell what tx. protocol gave me the best results but I think it was a combonation of the different cycling of meds/herbs.

The most benefit I believe came from the Liposome form of ART -way more powerful then any ART I have ever taken - including Coartem.

Once you finish the Coartem what will you be taking?

Saw my LLMD yesterday and will be starting Coartem and Art. once my liver is back to normal. Plan to get an IV glutathione next week to give liver a boost. I will take Coartem 3 days a month followed by 10 days of Art. them repeat every month. I have stopped zith. but will continue mino. What could I expect from Coartem as far as side effects?

I am currently on Mepron, 600 mg of Zithromax, and 200mg x2 daily of Doxy. It has only been a month. Do you think my LLMD will change/increase my dosage and/or add something else at the next visit? My main symptoms are severe pressure headaches, fatigue, and random heart pain +many many more. I am interested in adding Bactrim and Artemisinin or the Coartem.

xrunner2012-I was on the same protocol along with Artemisinin 10 days a month until my liver enzymes went through the roof! I main symptom has always been relentless headaches, fatigue, poor concentration, depression and anxiety.
