Hi Everyone, been awhile since I posted on this board.

How true is it that antibiotics will lower the effectiveness of birth control pills?

I have googled and all that comes up is that Rifampin is the one, but what about the others? Like Doxy?

Has anyone taken both with no problems?
Thanks,
Laurie

I have heard the same thing...that only Rifampin

lowers the effectiveness of birth control...my

college health practitioner gave a birth control

information session and specifically said that.

However, I haven't done any more research and don't

have personal experience.

I would think there is likely more than one antibiotic that can affect birth control pills. I recommend asking your gyno or pharmacist about the ones you are taking.

I just got birth control from Planned Parenthood and my dr. said it was only Rifampin that they say now affects birth control
