I have been taking Amoxycillin for about three weeks. The doctor had prescribed Ketek with it, but I am allergic to Ketek. I start itching. Is anyone in the same predicament? Does anyone know if Is Amoxycillin taken by itself worth anything for chronic lyme? I don't know what to do?

Have you called your Dr to tell them about the itching? Itching can be a sign of several things. I'd run it by your Dr.

Amoxi needs to be taken with probenecid.
See page 14 of Burrascano for an example of him saying this.
Otherwise, the amoxi is out of the body in no time--very short half-life.
I got rid of lyme on this combo. Then, flagyl added later.

What's Probenecid? I never heard of it. Can you take amoxycillin and flagil at the same time?

"Amoxicillin- Adults: 1g q8h plus probenecid 500mg q8h; doses up to 6 grams daily are often needed" (p. 18 of Burrascano)
Yes, you can take amoxi and flagyl at the same time. That's how I got rid of lyme disease.
Notice the dose is a minimum of 1,000 mg every 8 hours with probenecid. I took more than that.
Google "probenecid" to learn about it.

Thank you so much for the info. Now, what your opinion: Is it better to combine Amoxicillin and Probenecid or Flagyl and Amoxicillin? Going to take a lot on Porbenecid. Thanks again.

Any time you take amoxi, you must take probenecid. Probenecid is not an antibiotic. It just keeps the amoxi in your system longer.
So, any time you take amoxi, you just automatically also take probenecid. Otherwise, after about 2 hours, the amoxi is out of your body. No good.
So, you need amoxi, probenecid and flagyl all at the same time.

My LLMD (Dr. H.) did not give me Probencid to take with Amoxicillin.
I have a sulfa allergy and I think that is why he did not have me take it. He said Amox. would still be effective but needed to be spiked at high doses.

I developed an allergy to amoxicillin when I took it with probenecid. For me, it wasn't the probenecid itself (as I've taken that since then with no problems).
If you don't have a probenecid allergy, I would add it if your doctor allows. You can still take flagyl at the same time I believe.

DO NOT TAKE PROBENECID if you have a sulfa allergy!!! I took Amox. 4000mg a day with out probenicid and it hardly registered in my blood. I am allergic to sulfa and the effect could be serious!
