Hello,
My friend's doctor called her and told her
that her lyme titer test was positive but her western blot test was negative...

What does this mean?
does it mean she have the lyme antibody in her?

What is a lyme Titer?
what does it detect?
They told her she does not have lymes because
the western blot was negative...

I know that most doctors dont have an accurate understanding of lymes...but how can I explain what this means...

thank you for your help [Smile]

She should immediately call and request from the doctor's paper person (whatever that is called) a PAPER COPY of the western blot and the titer test "for her files" just so she has "that to eliminate confusion in the future."

She should say no more than that so that there are no red flags raised and she can get it and the see if any bands may have been positive, even with a "CDC negative" western blot.

But, a positive titer test (ELISA) with symptoms is a clear indication of lyme. Most doctors are uneducated about this (at the best) and down-right obstructive about it (at the worst).

She needs to find what we call a LLMD (lyme-literate MD). First, read why:

See listener comments, too. They show us how very wrong the ID doctor is who was interviewed. Very typical, though, and why ID doctors are not the ones who help those with lyme.
