Lettuce and corn are very hard to digest especially when you have an infection. Insufficient hydrochloric acid and digest enzymes could be the problem when chronically ill.

You might want to think about supplementing with digestive enzymes and HCL. I like Super Digestaway by Soloray because they also contain ox bile and pancreatin.

This too shall pass... I just couldn't resist!!

Over time as you start to get better, this will also start to get better, but the enzymes are still important and so is hydrochloric acid.

I would stay away from the foods that do not digest well and try to concentrate on what you can eat.

A year ago, everything came out like that for me, now it is rare that it happens. I do take both the enzymes and betaine hcl with each meal.

i think if you google "leaky gut" you might find some explanations

Also, try to eat slower & chew everything well. That may help...

There are different kinds of digestive enzymes. You may need a different one than HCL...?

I didn't think those with diverticulitis could eat corn. (could or should, whichever)

i haven't eaten corn lately but i have had some lettuce. it was only a very small amount on a sandwich.

the corn i had couple of weeks ago.

am not eating popcorn, nuts, big meals, dairy, you name it. they said i can have whatever a small baby can eat. stuff like pudding, oatmeal, etc., and only a tiny amount. no beef, greasy, etc., etc.

Another thing that increases the chances of this happening is use of the "acid blockers", either over the counter or prescription. These put one in a cycle where it just gets harder and harder to get well, and this is one of the reasons, as they prevent digestion of food.

Another cause of this sometimes is a very irritated digestive system. I have had bouts of this, on and off, that has impacted digestion. For example, after a parasite treatment with a couple weeks of meds, I was having stools with lots of undigested food. I thought it might have been C-diff, but both of my docs (acupuncturist and MD) suggested in different words essentially the same thing, that it was just irritation from the parasite meds themselves--they have lots of salts in them, of various forms. My acupuncturist sent me home with Health Concerns brand "Formula H", a relatively inexpensive chinese herbal formula to calm things down (often used for colitis, Crohn's, bleeding hemorrhoids). It worked wonderfully and digestion was solid for a time, until the next event which sent things in a different direction.

Other things that can cause irritation and move things too quickly are food allergies and excess heavy metals moving around. When things move through too quickly, there is not enough time/exposure to the acids/enzymes to get digested, and the result is essentially the same. A clue to things moving too fast due to various forms of irritation is that the food item comes out less than 24 hours from when it was swallowed.

I don't have rapid transit, but I do have inflammation throughout my gut. The problem is, there IS no diet I can eat that I'm not allergic to...and I don't want to go on steroids just to be able to digest my food...

Razzle - I would suggest you work on addressing food allergies, if you can. NAET and AI if you're up for either of those. spirit-repair.com has a "food repair" disc intended to help with negative consequences of food, perhaps it would help with that, I don't know. For a free approach, for several months, I used EFT to digest food prior to each meal.

I wish I could do the food allergy desensitiziation...but unfortunately I tried and it either doesn't work at all or I get worse instead of better from them (i.e., I was fine with corn before NAET, but now am allergic; was ok with garlic until desensitiziation for sulfur and now am anaphylactic to garlic, etc.).

My body does not make enough regulatory T-Cells, so it cannot shut down inflammation. Desensitization relies on regulatory T-cells if I understand it correctly.

My Allergist says I'm not a candidate for allergy shots (for outdoor allergies) because as he puts it, who knows the real status of my immune system...and it would be dangerous to try the allergy shots.

I wish to heck I could get results from the allergy treatments, but in my opinion, methylation issues and Lyme/coinfections are what I need to get dealt with adequately first before I can attempt allergy treatment again.

And I can't do AI because of mercury fillings (am allergic to the alternative fillings).

I've never gotten any help from EFT either...

So, so frustrating.
