I started B12 shots a few days ago. I can do them every day if I want to but I've been trying to stretch them out.

I had a pretty good week. A lot of improvements started after a glutathione IV that I tried to extend with methylcobalamin. I also was noticing slight improvements (before that IV) after starting Flagyl a short time ago. However, I am noticeably weak and ill feeling on days that I don't do the b12. Aren't they supposed to last a few days or so? Do many people do them daily?

In what way do they help with Lyme exactly? I know they can be helpful for those with MTHFR. I have not been tested for that. I also realize in a general sense that they are helpful for nerve damage and energy. However, is it just masking my Lyme and co-infection symptoms and herxing or is it actually improving something?

According to Burrascano, the typical dosing is daily. B12 helps to improve your depressed immune system. So, it is not "masking" lyme symptoms at all. It is helping your immune system get back to normal so it can kill lyme bacteria in your body.

I would say that your B12 level must be low--in other words, below the normal range. Otherwise, your doc would not have prescribed the shots and you would not be noticing the improvements you are noticing.

So, give your body the required B12 so that it can function more normally. B12 does many, many important things in the body--like healing the entire nervous system. Any person with lyme surely needs that.

From page 29 of Burrascano:

"METHYLCOBALAMIN (Methyl B12)
Methylcobalamin is a prescription drug derived from vitamin B12. This can help to heal problems with the central and peripheral nervous system, improve depressed immune function, and help to restore more normal sleeping patterns. Many patients note improved energy as well. Because the oral form is not absorbed when swallowed or dissolved under the tongue, Methyl B12 must be taken by injection. Dose is generally 25 mg. (1 c.c.) daily for 3 to 6 months."

I just started using Vitamin B12 Patch.
http://www.amazon.com/Vitamin-B12-Patch-8-Patches/dp/B002EJ3OGM/

The price came down from $50 to $20.45, so I decided to order it.

Thanks Carol and TF,

Merry Christmas if you celebrate it! Do you find that the patches are working as well as the shots? I ordered my month's supply from Infuserve and it came pre-filled in syringes with the needles for about $40 shipped.

I thought I'd have a hard time with the shots, but I'm doing fine with them. They are almost 100% painless for me if I inject the fluid slowly. I do them IM in my leg.

I asked my doctor to prescribe B-12 as more of a symptomatic help because my energy was so horrible, I was extremely depressed and the neuropathy has been increasing in my hands. I'm not a fan of taking medications (other than antibiotics) so I wanted to try B-12 so I wouldn't have to resort to pharmaceutical drugs for energy and depression.

I can't afford to dose as Burrascano does so I'm doing 1mg per day. Since that's only 1/25th of the suggested dose, I suppose it's perfectly fine to use it every day and not skip around like I have been.

Do you take the B-12 shots in addition to a B complex supplement?

I take B complex orally and b-6 orally (because I'm on Flagyl) but the shots are pure methylcobalamin.

Summer,
Look up B12 patch at Amazon.com and read the reviews.
People who are getting B12 injections are saying that adding the B12 patch is helpful.
