I was just wondering if anyone who was on it could tell me when they began to herx and/or to see any improvements.
Is it possible/reasonable to expect to see a reduction in symptoms in 2 months (8 weeks)?

My LLMD said that most people on IV see some kind of improvement at about 3 months. Everyone is different so be patient.

Good for you Jess!
I didn't have much of a herx with Rocephin. Everyone seems to respond differently.
I started noticing small positive changes within the first month (like the neuropathy in my hands stopped progressing and improved slightly!).
Progress with this med was slow and steady. I didn't notice a big improvement or difference in quality of life until I had been on if for a few months. Then I could clearly look back and say, "wow, this is good!".
Overall, rocephin was a very helpful antibiotic for me. I took it in combination with other medications.

I noticed first neurologic improvements at 3 months on Rocephin. I gradually noticed I wasn't so overwhelmed with external stimuli/multiple conversations. I still couldn't follow them, but wasn't completely lost.
After another month noticed increase in energy levels. I started ten minute walks, then increased to 20 minutes, and now stumble around 2-3 miles. I still need a nap afterwards but make it home under my own power.
It's slow, I'm still hoping for new neuro improvements. Time will tell. I didn't get bad herxes, just have 2-3 days of being completely wiped out every month.
I think I got a bad herx when I started Malarone, got sick pretty quick for a week. That was the week before I started rocephin

My experience was a major herx, lasting maybe a month or two. Symptoms were much worse.
But then things got a bit better, and better, and then in May 2009 I was feeling better than I had since getting sick.
And then my gallbladder started to grumble--major gallstones. This could have been genetic (both my mother and brother had to have their gallbladders removed before the age of 27), but it could also have been aggravated by the Rocephin.
So I had to stop the Rocephin while getting through gallbladder surgery and recovery. After that, I tried IV Rocephin again, but it did nothing. I think the starting/stopping allowed the Lyme to develop a resistance to the drug.
On the plus side, I now have pictures of my gallbladder and the numerous stones they found. (But they wouldn't let me keep them, the jerks.)
So my story has the good and the bad. I think if my gallbaldder had not acted up, the Rocephin would have allowed me to continue on a positive course.
P.S. the best thing I found for herxes was doing IV glutathione. Since I already had a PICC line, I could do glutathione infusions at home.

Hi Jess, I started iv rocephin 11 days ago so I can only share my experience to this point. I have been on oral abx for past 3 yrs. I haven't started any herx yet other than feeling very tired. Its a different kind of tired, not the overall fatigue that I constantly had. My extreme deep body aches have subsided and my head already feels clearer. I pray it continue to get better everyday. Also, my ear ringing/shrilling has gotten alot quieter. I seem to be be more alert. I was very nervous abt doing IV but I am starting to settle in now especially that I am already feeling changes. I am feeling pretty good at the moment... Good luck to you! jo
