Hi, I have just finished with 6 weeks of treatment on Ceftin and Tindamax. I'm having some gut issues so my doctor wants me to take a two week break from antibiotics and then start Mepron.

I am pretty nervous about this new course of treatment so I thought I would put it out here and see how those who have been treated by Mepron handled it.

I know we are all different but any little bit of information and suggestions is helpful. Thank you!!

I really didn't have any issues with mepron other than some bouts of depression. If you search you will find a topic on "mepron blues". It can cause some pretty severe depression so it is important to be aware of that and watch for it.

Usually stopping the Med for a few days took the depression away, but for some switching to a different Med entirely is best. Also it has to be taken with a fatty food. I always took mine with a scoop of peanut butter.

Thanks Ellen, I plan on taking it with peanut butter as someone else also suggested that. I'm really nervous about the depression side effects of the Mepron because I already suffer with it. I'm also nervous about what kind of HERX reaction I may or may not have. I just hope the Mepron helps. I'm ready for some relief. I start the Mepron in one week, wish me luck:))

Make sure you take it with a little bit of fat, so it will absorb well. I had abdominal pain if I forgot to eat fat with it.

Generally ZithroMax or Biaxin is prescribed along with Mepron to reduce building a resistance.

Most folks are up to 2 tsp twice a day for 5 to 6 months minimum. Work up slowly during first week or two. It will take a full month before it reaches full body concentration.

Expect weeks 5 thru 9 to be difficult, then improvements should start.

Some folks are starting to use Sida acuta or Alchornea cordifolia or Cryptolepis sanguinolenta herbals, since Mepron is proving less effective than before.

good luck

I use to take it with fish oil.

Also you cannot take CoQ10 supplement while on Mepron. (Cannot remember why)

It did not bother me, just was a pain to transport etc.

My son just got approval to double his mepron to 2 tsps. twice a day. I wonder how what the side effects will be, if any. I feel very fortunate that insurance is covering it.

I also read no Vitamin E with mepron.

I was on Mepron , 2 tsp. twice a day for over two years. Started out on 1 tsp. bid and increased to 2 tsp. bid with no side effects. It was a great med for me, but it took at least six months to see improvement.

It tastes yucky, and makes your tongue feel kind of numb, but you do get used to it. If you spill it on something wipe it up right away because it is like paint.

You will likely herx from it. If you feel depressed don't hesitate to do something about it, such as St John's Wort, antidepressant, light box! Don't let that get in the way of treatment or suffer needlessly. Good luck!

When I started Merpon and Zithromax, I felt very bad from day 4-7 and on day 8 woke up feeling much better than I had in longtime. Joint pain and fatigue improved so much so quickly, I was surprised and confirmed that this treatment was helping.

My son used it for a few months and had no problems at all. As noted above, don't take Coq10 while using mepron.

i've been on mepron for 5 months now and its the only thing that improves my breathing. it burns my throat and stomach so i have to take prevacid and i'm afraid i can't tolerate it much longer.

hi there, I am in my 4th week of mepron now. Have to say it already helps a lot and I didn't experience any herx except depression that lasted for two days but vanished without changing my protocol or anything else. Have to admit I am still on 1teaspoon two times a day and will stay with this dose as long as I feel it helps a great deal.

Do folks think I am risking resistances when staying on this low dose?

In comparison, my lyme herxes were much worse than the babs. Go ahead, IMHO mepron is a great med.

Rgrds,
Kern
