Hi everyone..I have an appointment with my gyno to discuss putting me on birth control again next week. I had been off it for a bit but now-based on recent circumstances which we do not need to go into again-I need to resume being on the pill.

My question is, has anyone on here been on the Pill while sick with Lyme? If so, can you tell me what BC pill caused the least side effects for you? Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Jess.

I've been on the NuvaRing, my gyn chose it because she said it has more of a local hormone effect and less systemic hormone release.

She didn't want me on a higher dose pill since I am so sick, she didn't want the risk of blood clots (yikes!).

It has helped to regulate my horrible periods so it is working with my antibiotics. Before the NuvaRing I was dangerously anemic, it has taken a long time to bring my blood levels back up.

I haven't noticed any side effects from it, just positive effects!

Your LLMD needs to be in on this discussion, too because:

1. certain drugs can cause some birth control Rx to fail

2. certain drugs can affect lyme treatment in various ways.

Even when you and your doctors find the best way, it's also still good to avoid sex (or also used condoms) during the time that you might be ovulating IF the birth control method might fail. Some do fail.

Just best to avoid the window of time (or employ added precautions) if that has any chance of happening.

I've been on Norethindrone (low dose bc pill) for almost a year now and I love it. My GYN put me on it to regulate and lighten my amazingly heavy periods. I have been anemic for years.

I am not treating my Lyme, so I can't answer to that aspect of it. And I don't know that I have really ever experienced side effects from it, though I do seem to tolerate meds well.

Since being on it, my periods are almost non-existent! I do have some spotting now & then, but I will certainly take that trade-off! And no more anemia!!!!!
