I've been doing methylcobalamin injections IM for a few weeks and have had no problems. I never even feel the shots. Today, when I went to do the shot, as soon as the needle hit muscle I had a really painful muscle spasm. Thinking I was just in a bad spot on my leg I tried again on the other side and the same thing happened. I tried one more time in another new spot and it happened again but I didn't want to waste any more so I just did it anyway. The spasming was really painful though and was making me sick to my stomach.

I've been really twitchy and weak this week so I don't think it's purely the b12, but now I'm kind of afraid of the shots even though they help me. Do you think this will happen again when I do it tomorrow? Should I put a heat pack on or take magnesium right before I do it?

I do the injections sub Q now and have no issues like you are talking about. I do them around my belly button.

All I can think of is that you hit a nerve or ended up hitting a blood vessel and the B12 went right in your bloodstream. I did that once and got that nauseous feeling too. Sub Q is easier and I absorb the B12 just fine.

B12 doesn't usually cause any twitching. Being twitchy is usually a sign that your magnesium needs to be increased.

Anticipatory anxiety can also do this.

But if you've had more muscle twitching lately anyway, it is likely from electrolyte imbalance...magnesium is important, but so is potassium, sodium, chloride, calcium...

Dehydration (usually caused by or made worse by electrolyte imbalance) can also contribute to experiencing more muscle twitching/spasms.

I thought at first it was a nerve, but then when it happened 2 more times in different spots.......it seemed odd.

I take about 3000mg of magnesium a day and just had my electrolytes checked this week and they were fine. I wasn't anxious about it either.

It was really weird, like a total loss of control of my body. I hope it wasn't some kind of seizure. That's my main concern.
