Been posting about my disc issues. So been getting pt twice weekly. Yesterday, I went and she hit something. After that, my whole back was spasming and needed to lie down.

But it's not just the disc area, but almost like a sciatica on the same side.

My friend who has Lyme, mentioned maybe the meds are getting something too. Funny thing is, I feel great in the sense of no Lyme issues.

I have to work so staying home Isn't an option. help greatly appreciated here. [Frown]

Really hot showers helped my back when I went through a phase of severe back pain.

I also take Tramadol for pain.

My doc says it is better than tylenol or advil because it does not do damage to the stomach.

I have dealt with severe back pain. Mine is in my lower back around the SI joints. At times it was excruciating where all I could do was cry.

My LLNP gave me lidoderm patches that can be applied to the area for 12hrs on, 12 hours off. She also gave me an rx for neurontin. Those two things helped a lot.

PT, massages all made my pain worse. My LLNP said to stay away from those types of things as the pain is nerve pain . I also found that heat aggravated my symptoms.

I feel great except for my back issues - they've lessened since i stopped ambien and almost all supps - when it's bad - and it's aggravated by work chair and chair at home , i take tramadol...the only supps i take now are a one a day vitamin, magnesium, vit D, sometimes adrenal health, and sometimes chlorella...but stopping ambien had the most interesting relief, as did starting extra magnesium...

ACE hardware stores? What an odd stock item for a hardware store to carry?

How long have you had this new severe pain? Do you remember doing anything having an accident or injury that hurt it?

If you've had the pain for awhile now, if it is getting worse or no better, if you may have injured yourself somehow, then I think that it is time you should ask for some testing like an x-ray.

It's best to find out what's going on with your back as soon as possible so that the problem can be fixed with little residual damage. If you wait too long you may have more permanent effects.

In my experience, doctors seem hesitant to run tests on back pain. Maybe they think that everyone has it? Well, my back pain turned out to be 6 vertebral fractures that needed fixed! I also had severe osteoporosis that needed treated. I didn't get proper treatment so I ended up with 3 more vertebral fractures within just a couple months. Now I live with severe pain and a curved spine.

My back keeps getting worse so now I have to have a major surgery this spring to straighten my spine and keep it aligned with rods and screws.

Janice, I tell you my story not to scare you and make you think that you have vertebral fractures. I just want you to know how important it is to stand up for yourself and ask for tests if you feel you need them when you know that something is very wrong. Like now, you are in horrible pain so you need to find out why.

So Sorry, I missed the part in your first post where you said your PT hit your back and it started spasming, then you had to lie down.

That sounds more like a muscle issue. I would try warm compresses to the area to relax the tense muscles out. They can hurt like crazy and pull your body out of alignment.

You may also want to contact your PT to tell them what happened. They can probably gently work with you to relax you back and get it back to normal by using light massage, tens, heat, etc...
