Sitting in the ER at the moment. I had my Picc line placed yesterday and shortly after i started getting periodic heart palpatations and chest discomfort. The initial x rays shows proper placement of the picc. Im waiting now for a new xray to see if it has moved. Regardless if it hasnt I have discomfort that is obviously caused by the line. I know its not a heart issue. Has anyone has problems with their picc this way

I have heard of this happening. Seems like they backed it off just a little and fixed the problem. While a PICC can be withdrawn a bit, what should not be done is push it in further (which would take germs with it).

I hope they figure it out. Never heard of that happening but I am sure it scared the heck out of you. I have a port so no issues with that.

Yes, it happened to me. They need to pull it out a bit, even if it shows proper placement on the X-ray as mine did.

Yup. Just like I thought. They said it was proper placement did a bunch of heart tests and sent me on my way. I still dont feel right though. Im gonna ride out the weekend and check with my llmd on monday
Jwall did you have discomfort in your chest as well. It feels like slight pins and needles and occasional heart flutter when I bend over certain ways

As usual, the tests trump the patient experience.

That is scary that they just sent you home and ignored the problem.
Keep a watch on it.

Yes, I had chest discomfort and when I would bend over my heart started racing. They didn't believe me either, but I said I wasn't leaving until they fixed it.
They finally hooked me up to an EKG (?) machine - something that can see the heartbeat and records it. They told me to bend over to induce the fluttering and they were able to see my heartbeat going crazy. They said, "wow, look at that! You were right!" Annoying.
They pulled the picc out just a tad and all was fine with heart, but chest discomfort continued for the 10 months I was on IV.

I had that too. Showed proper placement but they pulled it out just a hair and the flutters stopped.
