I've been taking Diflucan a long time. Too long. I asked my Dr for ketoconazole since I saw it mentioned here.
THEN I read the drug insert!!
What would be safer than ketoconazole?

I think nystatin is supposed to be pretty safe but am not sure. Have you tried GSE? It really keeps our yeast in check. Another product we sometimes use is Jernigan's Yeast Ease (liquid).

My LLMD says Nystatin is very safe.
Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
I'm taking Nystatin... have for years. I need a REAL anti-fungal.
I cannot take GSE and my stomach tolerates just about ZERO herbs.
I'm in big trouble.

The yeast ease is pretty gentle from what I can tell. Might be worth a try.

I'll look it up. Nothing natural has helped me.
Can you tell me what's in it? I couldn't find the ingredients online...just the product.

Lufenuron is much better known in the veterinary world as Program. It is used to treat parasite infections such as fleas. It works because it inhibits chitin production.
Humans and, indeed, all mammals do not produce chitin and therefore the potential for side effects in humans is very small. Insects do need chitin to make a tough exoskeleton. Interestingly, so do yeasts and moulds it is chitin in their cell wall that makes them so tough and difficult to kill.
Therefore, potentially Lufenuron can be used to kill yeasts and moulds and, indeed, this has been well demonstrated in the veterinary world. It is not metabolised or eliminated by the liver or kidneys, but excreted through the faeces and again this makes it remarkably non-toxic.
Lufenuron is very lipid soluble this means it is taken over five days and loads up into fatty tissues from which it is slowly released over four to six weeks. This maintains tissue concentrations high enough to kill all yeast, including candida, for at least a month and possibly longer. One can get die-off reactions, but that is the case with any antifungal which is effective.

I've found Candibactin BR to be great, it's by Metagenics. Of course, if you can't handle any herbs, then you can't handle it. For me, coffee enemas also are great, better than any pills. Don't know if that relates to where my yeast are camping out, or if it might also be helpful for others. They stimulate the liver ... maybe your liver could use some help?

those here are non-prescrition http://icreateprofits.com/research.html and there have been some postings here on this forum on Boron or Borax and candida/yeast

This reminds me.....I've read from many different sources, that in order to get rid of persistent yeast, you must first get rid of toxic metals.
From all I've read, if the underlying cause is not addressed, then it's not possible to get rid of the yeast.
Posted by randibear (Member # 11290) on :
hmmm, is there a test you can buy and test for metals yourself??
Posted by Tammy N. (Member # 26835) on :
Hi randi - A good way to test is with a hair analysis from Doctor's Data. I think it's about $100 (if I remember correctly). All you need is for your doc to write a prescrip on their blue pad for hair analysis and you just fax it to the company, and they will send you the test kit.
btw - it's best to use pubic hair....because it is not color treated. And also you need to send a lot of hair, and most of us don't want to take it off our heads.
It's a good, valuable test because it not only shows toxic metals, but it also shows your good mineral levels also.
There are also other tests for urine and blood, but not every doctor offers those.

Carol... My doctor has a few patients on Lufenuron. I was waiting to see how they did on it. I am ready.
Maybe I need to re-state my question or just google it... I need a list of a few PRESCRIPTION ANTI-FUNGALS so I can ask the Dr for a different one. I am afraid of this one. (above)
Thanks, all!

I've found Sporanox (aka itraconazole) to be more effective for me than diflucan (fluconazole).
Itraconazole has a broader coverage, kills more types of fungi than diflucan, can kill what is often resistant to diflucan.
Other meds are vfend and posaconazole. These are typically used only in the hospital as last resort meds. They are very expensive.
Capsofungin and Mycofungin are very new, they are also usually only given in the hospital situation to immune compromised patients. I think these have to be given IV.
Remember Lymetoo, you are only going to be given a short course of the antifungal medicine (probably 10-14 days?). Most docs won't keep you on it long term unless you are a transplant patient or someone with a severe immune deficiency.
You are much less likely to have a side effect with a short course of treatment then you would with long term (12-16mo) treatment. Right?
It was necessary for me to try Itraconazole and I've been happy with the results so far. I didn't have any noticeable side effects.

Compounded nystatin.
Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
I'll have to check on Sporanox. It may interfere with some of my meds .. or with my heart. Not sure.
I took 1/2 pill of the keto and it feels like my pancreas is still in a spasm.
catgirl.. why compounded nystatin? Why is it better than plain nystatin????

I take oregano herb capsules , NOT OIL , that are the oregano vulgare powder . They do not hurt gut at all ! I buy Vitamin Shoppe brand , but a lot of people buy the expensive Orega max kind of products . It really helps me with asthma and sinus , and is a gentle antifungal, unlike the concentrated oil .

The most simple and least expensive and non-rx is MMS for fungi/candida/mold, etc.
Not only will MMS take of the fungi, but it will also deal with the heavy metal and chemical toxins that brought on some of the problems in the first place.
Take care.
P.S. in order to avoid heated debates which have taken place when I first posted about MMS, I would suggest that people who are not informed on the subject of oxygen, ozone, MMS, etc., please take the time to learn from the many different sources available on the internet. I have posted many of them. You will find all the pros and cons needed to form an opinion.

also, enzymes. candex or standard process multizyme. it eats the molds and yeasts (of course, stay away from starches and sugars) with little die off. good luck. also treating the sinuses might help as well...colon cleansing, liver flushes.

Berberine is useful. I think it can work synergistically with the drugs... It makes them more effective. You have to check it yourself, though.

Gigi recently posted some youtube videos from a MD who practices in Mexico. I found them interesting. He said MMS will work up to a point on fungi. He said in some people it works really well and eradicates it, but in some it does not. Apparently the fungi can adapt to the oxidizing properties of MMS, which is why MMS may or may not work for fungi in people.
Might be worth it if you take a very low dose. I know you said you had trouble with it before, though.
I suspect that different people will have different results with Lufenuron, as well. Unfortunately there does not seem to be cure-all for fungi or a lot of diseases.
Blessings.
