Did malarone work for you and is it a hard drug to tolerate?

It's been an easy drug for me as far as tolerating it goes. Just take it in the middle of your meal. I've been improving little by little on it every month, along with parasite treatment.

Malarone has been good for me. I ramped up very slowly as I am very sensitive. At 6 weeks I was at full dose. I didn't herx until the 5th week. I have had an increase in symptoms.
I am at 7 weeks now and just started having some very mild air hunger for about 3 days.
Catgirl, what are you doing for parasites?
I am starting to pulse Art this coming Monday so I am a little nervous about this.

I am not sure of the Malarone dosage off the top of my head but it is 3 pills twice daily.

i was rxed 250 twice a day. this stuff is very expensive, I am not sure when I will be able to get this filled.
Are there any cheaper alternatives? Are there any websites that can give you info about where to get cheap meds?

Malarone is off patent and generic now. Did your doc check the box for substitutions permitted? That tells the pharmacist to fill with generic as opposed to brand name.
I pay $5 co-pay vs. $120 for Mepron.

I was checking prices for Malarone (generic) since i have to pay out of pocket to reach my co-pay amount first. Cash price was almost 1100.00 and my contracted price through insurance was 661.00
Malarone is expensive even with insurance. I did actually get some run around from the pharmacy about the dosage. I politely asked them why they were inquiring as this was a refill and not a new prescription.
In the end they informed me they had called my LLMD to question the dosage. I told them if there was a problem with the dosage they should have indicated this when the first filled the prescription. They did fill it without waiting for a response from my LLMD.

Ouch! Insurance is a pain. (Or, if you prefer, den of thieves.) We have a good carrier now, but we've had crap insurance during our Lyme journey, too.
So sorry. It's a good drug but not worth $600-1000!
Lame. I hope you find a good alternative. There are many.

Good for you for standing up to the pharmacist. I know it's their job to question unusual prescriptions, but I swear it's only the controlling ones who do this with us. (Now that I've offended all pharmacists...)
I use different pharmacies and try to stagger my refills, but a few months ago I had to pick up five refills at once from Walgreens. And they weren't all pills. I had powders, liquids, you-name-it.
I drove away from the window with a grocery sack of prescription refills. The tech looked at me funny, but didn't say a thing. I did feel kind of uncomfortable though.

Winni, I'm currently on alinia. I've also done salt/c, ivermectin, bilt, and pyrentel.
My pharmacist said that all pharmacists are legally required to check with doctors' offices when a script goes over the normal dosage (I think normal dosage for malarone is just one per day).

Catgirl, good to know about the pharmacist. Now I feel bad but honestly I am so jaded at this point sometimes I feel I will snap if questioned. I am pleased that I was polite. Haha!
Thanks for letting me know about the antiparasitics. I want to take some and my LLMD doesn't want to do long term. So suffice it to say, I will figure it out on my own for a while.
Boxer mom, that is a great idea. Maybe I will use a couple of pharmacies to minimize the inquiries.

For me Malarone did not work, Mepron worked better.

CD57 my doc wants me to take artemisinin with the milestone.
I have such a hard time tolerating abx and I am scared of a bad herx.
