Does anyone have information on Stonybrook testing? Does their Western Blot include bands 31 and 34? Is there testing considered reliable?

Thanks! I am asking for someone else.

Hmmm... not sure. I think it's a step above LabCorp and Quest, but not as good as Igenex.

I hope someone knows about the bands. I thought those were NOT tested by Stonybrook, but I could be wrong.

Dr has to request "show all bands". I think they are quite reliable and a good option if paying out of pocket is difficult as they accept insurance. I wouldn;t go there for treamtment but they have a lot of experience and a pretty extensive database

Thanks for your replies.

It is good to know the doctor needs to request to show all bands. Geez why don't they just do it?!

Yes, the doc has to request "all bands"

FWIW, it wasn't worth it for us. Our insurance didn't pay for Stonybrook testing for "all bands."

And IMO, this lab isn't any better than Quest or Labcorp.

You'd think it would be, it being on Long Island, NY where Lyme/cos are rampant.

Good info! Thanks, guys!

So I guess it is better to get tested at IgeneX even though it is not 100%.

Thank you!

I had a "CDC positive" test done at Stonybrook. My ELISA was indeterminate and I had bands on the Western Blot. 6 Years later, my infectious disease doc called Stonybrook about my test (which he didn't order)and they told the ID doc that my bulls eye rash was more proof positive of Lyme disease than any serology that could be done.

Thank goodness Stonybrook was that smart, Otter!

Sammi- I think that Stonybrook ("requesting all bands") is pretty comparable to MDL in NJ. Good- but maybe not utilized quite as much by those in the know, so to speak. Doubt that you could go wrong referring someone to IgeneX! [Smile]

Hope that your friend finds adequate testing/care!
