I have had a sore throat for ten weeks. Had a strep test and everything. Took antibiotics. Also get swollen glands. This has been a chronic problem for years but never lasted ten weeks!
Is this the Lyme? Anyone else had this problem?

Bartonella can give you a nasty sore throat! Do you have lots of red streaks in the back of your throat?

Interesting! I didn't know that. Are the streaks classic for bartonella? Have you had experience with this?
I also noticed that my left jawbone is now swollen. And it's not my sinuses. Ugh

You should try the colloidal silver for that. My daughter had re-current strep which went away with the c.s.

My doctor said there's a nasty bug going around this year that gives a cold-like illness with a sore throat that comes & goes for months. My DH has it, and I think I just caught it Posted by kim812 (Member # 17644) on :
I had a sore throat for 10 months when I started abx back in 2006. No matter what abx I was on the sore throat continued. It was not strep but certainly felt like strep. I took my first dose of amox...probenecid...ketek and within 3 days I got the sore throat. Those aren't even Bart meds so the doctor had no idea what the deal was. Believe me it lasted 10 straight months. I went on Rocephin IV and within 3 days the sore throat disappeared and I haven't had one since (2007).
The doctors never could tell me why it happened or what caused it...not even Dr. H ! As with this illness...strange things happen and sometimes there just is no explanation.
I would use cough drops and gargle although it was useless. Sometimes it was so sore my eyes would water...brutal.

I believe babesia can cause a sore throat and I know protomyxzoa can. PR also causes swollen lymph nodes and pain in the jaw and teeth. You would probably have some of the other symptoms like profound fatigue, headaches, stiffness in the morning, muscle pain, cold hands and feet etc.
You could also get a dry unproductive cough that comes and goes, nasal congestion and losing your voice. I thought I had a cold for months too.

It could be Mycoplasma.
"Mycoplasma are a group of microorganisms which are a cross between a virus and a bacteria. Together with Chlamydia and Rickettsia they make up a family of microorganisms known as Rickettsiae and Pararickettsiae. They are found everywhere, the hosts are usually rodents and the vectors are arthropods (insects with jointed legs) or airborne through dust. Rickettsial organisms have been found in ticks, lice, fleas, mites, meat, milk, stool and dust.
They are the smallest free living organisms. Like viruses, they are intracellular organisms but unlike viruses, they can reproduce outside cells. They lack a cell wall which makes them resistant to many antibiotics. They enter the body through skin, lungs or digestive system. They then spread through the bloodstream to infect vascular endothelium. They multiply within cells until numbers are so great that the cells burst. This then damages blood flow to multiple organs, hence the multitude of symptoms which may occur.
Research by Dr Cecile Jardin (a French surgeon now based in South Africa and specialising in the treatment of chronic fatigue) has shown that the most common symptoms of chronic mycoplasma type infections include:
I get reocurring sore throats and throat swelling, diff. swallowinng at times.
My LLMD believes it's Bart. Levaquin or Rifampin,if tolerable, should help with this.
For me it made me herx and my throat swelling got worse. Doxy has been helping somewhat but doc says it wont be enough to totally get rid of it.
I'll eventually try Levaquin again. Hopefully you can get over the sore throat issues. You just need to find the right abx that work for you.

Yes, I have Bartonella sore throats all the time. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe there are characteristic 'red arches' of the throat with Bart.

A sore throat is the reason I am awake at 1:00 am. I got it yesterday after eating chili and drinking milk... I don't know the connection (I usally don't react to spicy foods like that). I woke in the middle of the night with severe reflux and could barely swallow. It's continued all day. It feels like my throat is on fire!!! I took some diflucan thinking it may be yeast related as I always react to dairy.
This was one of my initial symptoms, recurring sore throat, drainage, burning for about a year before I started treating lyme and co. I never took anything for yeast but it went away so perhaps it is one of the coinfections.
I hope its not bart resurfacing Posted by Messa (Member # 38065) on :
Man, this is all so frustrating! I was tested for mycoplasma pneumonia and it was negative. In fact everything is always normal except for Lyme igenex and Ana.
Another question...... if we hv bacteria (infection) then why is CBC normal? White cell count?

These bugs are very old. They have evolved many ways of staying alive, which includes evading the detection of the immune system.
If the immune system doesn't "see" the bug, it won't respond with abnormal WBC counts.
And the body seeks very hard to maintain homeostasis. This means that it takes significant changes for there to be any abnormalaties in the CBC.
