my daughter was bitten by a tick just about 24 hours ago. It was on her for no more than 20 minutes , when she removed it . Should i be worried ? She is 19 years old . I have doxy( 50 mg) , doryx( 150mg) ( which is one drug i am on ) in the house. Do you think she should take one of these drugs tonight until i can talk with her doctor tomorrow?

I would (myself) want the 150mg of Doryx. Then call the Dr.

She didn't have to pull it off?

(not that it really matters.. I would still want the abx!)

Personally I'm a fan of treat the bite too. Just not worth the risk

agree. after 19 years of being sick ,being treated aggressively for a few years and just coming off of IV antibiotics for 11 1/2 months you would think i would know what to do -

The second time I got bit, it only bit me and didn't attach and I still have problems with that area of my hand.

I would treat for the 10 days with the doryx.

While there is supportive evidence the spirochete takes time to pass through the mid gut wall if one squeezes the gut in removal then the risk of transmission increases.

She has to be religious about keeping out of sunlight while the doryx is in the system as well as taking a pro biotic.

I would be taking any abx I could get my hands on and for as long as I could just to be safe. I would rather do that then go through the hell of lyme disease

Definitely call your doctor. The minimum amount of time I would treat--with the proper dose of Doxy--would be six to eight weeks. The Lyme bacteria has a slow growth cycle so treatment needs to be long enough.
