My daughter caught a stomach/intestinal virus and had to go to urgent care for an IV for dehydration.
Usually, that makes one feel better after a night of going at both ends. However, within a few hours the pain greatly intensified in her ENTIRE body and her brain got very toxic causing severe depression.
What is the science behind this. My daughter has been treating this illness for ten years and has been on Ivermectin, Doxy, Bactrim, for the past year.
Could the toxins be flushed through her body with saline push? Could the salt in the water cause a herx?

Any chance it was the virus doing this and not the saline IV?

Saline is sodium chloride (salt) Could have caused a herx because salt is antibacterial and antiparasitic. I have seen other folks post on here that said they herxed from IV saline.

I am so sorry she is sick and is hurting from the treatment! I can't think of why it would cause her more body pain. Is it possible to make a call back to where she received it and see what they say?
Was it infused too fast? Did they add anything to it?
I hope she feels better soon!

My daughter has been doing lactated ringers infusions on off treatment days. They help alkalizer the body and flush toxins. Lately they've been making her really sick. So much so that she doesn't want to do them anymore. We asked our LLMD about it this week. He says that the IV is releasing all of the dead bugs a Nd toxins. Said she needs to do 2 when the first one makes her sick. One to release the toxins and the second to flush them out. Just got home from DC tonight so will try tomorrow and see if it makes any difference.

I like LymeMom's daughter do ringer infusions of off days (maybe we have the same doctor since she got home from DC?). I do not have any issues with them at all. I am not young though.

I don't know what ringer infusion means. I did read the link above.
What my daughter experienced was a major herx. We had seen this before when she first took Ivermectin many years ago. She took the prescribed dose and ended up in a fetal position on the sofa, with a trip to the ER.
We both think the saline caused a major die off. It is subsiding now, but it took days. She said she felt like she did when she first started getting sick.
She was in so much pain from head to toe that she couldn't get out of bed and was texting me to get her things. This is so unlike her, as she will pull herself up by the bootstraps and endure anything.
I am going to send a letter to her doctor, who is always trying to do research on this illness, and see what he thinks.

Lactated Ringers infusion is a general saline infusion used to keep people from getting dehydrated. My daughter has been having a 'herx' (big time) with the Lactated ringers. This is new for her. In the past the Lactated Rogers always helped Now they are causing herxes.
So her LLMD said that if/when it happens again to do 2 bags instead of one. The herx will subside much more quickly.
I'm sorry your daughter is suffering. Hoping she finds relief soon.
